How are you affording law school anon? Senior in uni with 4.0 GPA atm, was set on going to law school but I realized it would be a financial disaster to not work for 3 more years and be six figures in debt. Pretty sure I am just going to get a Masters in data science instead.

if you're really into it you should research academic articles and look whuch unis and teachers are doing it.

Scored 169 on the LSAT & accepted a full ride at a regional state school instead of aiming for T14. Not worried about missed income or whatever because I get enough to live on every month from family investments.

focus on securities + IP and you'll be as good as you can be

fwiw, Roche Cyrulnik is a new-ish firm that has handled the big crypto litigation recently. that said, they're a spin-off of Boies with some people from PW so like.. as elite as it gets.

I don't think there's nearly enough work in the space as-is to specialize on that alone though (especially straight out of school), so you'll wanna try to set yourself to be able to pivot to work in it later

>> No.28354274

just saw that you decided to go to a regional though which to be honest limits how easily you can get your foot in the door at more specialized firms unless you 1) get a very strong GPA, 2) demonstrate commitment to the specialty early on (which in this case would be either securities or IP as I mentioned)

with such a hyperniche practice it'd just be a whole lot tougher to go from regional midlaw > somewhere that touches crypto than from BigLaw/fedgov (SEC in particular)

>> No.28354496

full ride is for sure the right choice if you're not picky about what you practice and know you want to stay in that region, but just be aware that you'll have to grind and network way harder (+ be geographically flexible) if you want to get into a specialty practice area than you otherwise would

Logic games are really just a matter of practice, but LR I think it's crucial to stop and look back after each practice section to go over in detail why you missed the ones you did.
I've read that some people would log the types of LRs they missed which can help you start to notice patterns about the types you missed (I didn't do that but it probably would've helped)

For the reading section.. not sure how to help there - also just grinding practice sets I think

Thanks so much anon. Not too sure if I want a career in law anymore, I always wanted to do family law. I graduated with a ABA Approved Paralegal degree from a community college in August and I have yet to have found employment. Of course there is a pandemic and firms probably don't want to hire a entry level paralegal when a lot of the work is remote now. Anyways, this experience has been somewhat discouraging and the job growth for lawyers is about 4% which is on the lower end of average.

I did really well in and enjoyed my Statistics class. I saw that data science is a really promising field 35% job growth and, with the average salary being $75,000 with the upend being $120,000. Not too sure which direction I want to take yet though. I will have a business management bachelors degree in 15 weeks. Easy major so I have been able to keep my GPA at a 4.0, the only issue is I don't have a comp sci background so I am not sure if I would be successful at it. Plus I might need to relearn a lot of math if I need to take the GRE for data science applications. I did really well in the Paralegal courses, and have experience with law courses. Maybe I will cram on the LSAT and see if I can swing a scholarship.

just take it man. i would highly recommend spending the money on 7sage's $69/month subscription & the one time LSAC licensing fee to access all the past tests. my diagnostic was a 152. you can take it for free on khanacademy. desu, i barely studied. mostly drilled LG because that was my weakest. I only got 3 of em right on my diagnostic. unless you're a nog, u can easily score above 160 with a couple months of light prep.

all fair considerations, but I'd just say - don't go into law school unless you WANT to be a lawyer and can see yourself doing it for life.

I pivoted to law school after a good enjoyable few years working in something not super related... because it's something I know I'll be able to do for life, + got into a good enough school that money and job security isn't a concern

if both those things weren't true, I'd have a much harder time convincing myself it's worth it. I do think it's just like - inherently a lot more stressful than other fields.

if you have no strong passions either way, def stick with data science, but if you can only imagine being fully fulfilled working in the law (me), then it's hardly a choice anyway.

plus, I'm sure you'll be fine at comp sci - from what I've heard it's not all that difficult to get a stable decent-paying coding job if you're reasonably intelligent

its too late to apply this cycle, all the scholarship money will have already been disbursed. most deadlines are also next month. desu, studying law is somewhat risky, even at the big schools. i'm only doing it because im a 30 year old boomer oldfag with considerable savings and family property keeping me afloat. i can afford to not worry about money too much. you're young, so you need to focus on making as much money as possible in your 20s. i'd say take a gap year, go live with your parents, study hard for the GRE. brush up on math, learn python/R. get into a good school, get rich. and in 10 years, you can always study law if that's what you really want.

>> No.28357719

>>28356711
no problem. and nice - def lean into building connections with those profs at your school then. try to be a research assistant, and maybe try to write a note on crypto/IP as well if you can.

I'm lazy enough that I probably won't do all of that myself but from what I've seen at my school that's the stuff that can really set you apart from the others with your same GPA.
(GPA is far and away most important, especially from a regional, so if you can do that stuff on top of a good GPA you'll be in a good spot)

Thanks so much Anons, 22 atm. My crypto portfolio is doing pretty decent, I am up to $90,000 I want to cash out 50k this bull run so I can afford my grad school. I was never 'good' at math in high school but I got on medication for ADHD when I was a freshmen at community college. Went from a really poor high school student to top of my class in college. I did really well at statistics & accounting, not really strictly math related fields though. I haven't taken a strict math class in years, which is kind of concerning, but I have learned how to study and actually absorb knowledge in the 3 years. Currently a senior at Regis Uni, and I want to go to Denver Uni for the Data Science Masters, which is a pretty good school. No programing experience but DU has a 15 credit program for non comp sci students which teaches python and other related skills. Plus I think it is doable to start developing my career in a masters program, that would be impossible with law school. Worst case scenario, I don't have the brain for Comp Sci and I get a job in the paralegal or biz field. Thanks again Anons.

I'm a lawyer and I fucking hate lawyers and law school students. Lawyers are basically the kids who LARP about being smart because they were dogshit at everything else. Lawyers are truly the definition of midwits, that's partly why their egos are so big.

Have fun in law school. It fucking sucks and all your peers will be losers who will constantly be gaslighting you and looking for the first opportunity to throw you under the bus.

That being said the best way to become a crypto lawyer is don't. Not right out of law school anyways. Get a job in big law (life crushing work that pays well, quit after 3 years or you will suffer a stroke by 50) or at a solid firm with attorneys that aren't total midwit losers (this is rare). After spending time in whatever legal field you choose, start doing crypto law work on the side. Make a blog or a website or something. Start a side project. Dive into established crypto projects and follow other crypto attorneys on Twitter, find out what they're doing. That's the way to make it.

I work in BL and went to an HYS. If I could go back in time, I would have gone to a lower T14 with a full scholarship. BL destroys your social life so prioritize firm culture. To your point, niche fields require chance encounters and happening to be in the right place at the right time. Before committing to law school, make sure you cant see yourself doing anything else.

77k***** sorry, portfolio was at 96k the other day. But it's been going crazy because of ASKO.
I got into crypto when I was 18 in 2016, I managed to turn like $400 into $40,000 but I didn't sell. Portfolio dumped to like $2,000 in 2017. It managed to go back up in December of 2020 and January of 2021. I sold like .45 of BTC and 2 eth for 17.5k in January.

I have been leveraging that money and I have used the 300/400 free UNI into trades. Put 200 of the UNI into RBC which I have gotten out of for like 400% profit. Put like $4,000 and some of RBC gains into ASKO at 1 cent, currently that is up 400%. I bought a lot of PPAY as well when it was 2 cents with my RBC gains. Put my other 100 UNI into DEXG and some of my PPAY profits into it as well. Currently have like 3k/17.5k I cashed out just in Coinbase.

I want to buy 42 more DEXG so I can have 100 of them with my ASKO profits. I think that DEXG is going to be really fucking big, and I am really excited about its future. I think that PPAY can also be really big. I want to cash out at least $50,000 for my grad school, but ideally $100,000 to $200,000 depending on how big ASKO gets along with DEXG and PPAY. Hope this helps, posted my portfolio as well.
