The advantage of LEAPs is to "capture" the bullish moves of a ticker with a fraction of the capital. They are deep ITM to greatly reduce the effect of volatility on your purchase and sell premium and long dated to minimize time decay of your option.
Frequently LEAPs are always "rolled over". So if you buy 2+ year out LEAPs, you sell them when they are 1 year (or 6 months, depending on preference) and pocket the profits or losses then and there. You can then use part of the profits for new leaps that are again 2+ years out. This is "rolling over" the LEAPs to new strikes and new expiry.
