I've seen anons recommending various crypto currencies as investments. To me, it looks like a bubble propped up only on faith and a desire to slip out from government boots. Normally what gives a currency its value is what you can exchange it for, and hence the GDP of the nation that enforces it as its medium of exchange.
As far as I know, crypto currencies are used in relatively few markets, so their value comes from three things.
1. yes, those markets.
2. extremely stable/predictable money supply.
3. speculation on future uses.

Most of it, I think, comes from number 3. With that in mind, bitcoin is the best known crypto currency, and therefore, the most likely to be adopted by normies (Doge might also be popular enough at this point, cause memes). However, that's not what I see recommended the most.

The questions: Are most (semi)popular crypto currencies only useful as pump and dumps?
Are any remotely stable investments?
Are any used in wider markets than I think?
Are any of the popular ones likely to be adopted more widely? Why?

Note, I'm a newfag. Assume I'm uneducated. Also, assume I'll think you're trying to use me to pump the value of your investment unless you point me to sources that check out/ have valid arguments.

Thank you for answers. I appreciate you making me less retarded.
