Underqualified-and-opinionated, with a massive conflict of interest. Yeah... sounds like typical post-Martin Liberal big wig...

You knew it was going to be bad when they started right out the gate with deficient spending (in good economic times) that was so massive that it became even difficult for economic grads to understand the scale of it. I'm still pretty new to Crypto. My understanding was that it was taxed as capital gains, with only 50% of it being taxable income. Or am I misunderstanding that? I've only just capped my TFSA in the last year, so I've never personally had to deal with capital gains tax yet.

The orange turd south of the border basically gave Trudy a free pass on anything. People read more US news than Canada news, and news is usually negative. This leads to a situation where Canadians think we're always doing better, even when we are in the economic dumpster. Same thing happened during the 90's near bankruptcy. Few Canadians who lived through that even know it happened. We had to implement massive policy changes that allowed for cuts without wrecking the entire system.

You're right about moving your money, but don't put it into CNY. It is too heavily manipulated and centrally controlled. As Harper said in a recent interview, most economists agree that we don't even know the actual value of the RMB. It's a fabricated value from a nation of fabricated values.

That's why I said "maybe even CNY at this rate". This statement reveals that CNY is not supposed to be a good choice. It also reveals that the current situation is degrading so much that it might become a real choice given how shit everything is. Specifically, I'm saying that everything is manipulated, and that china's manipulations might soon look like nothing we have to deal with. Moreover, china's manipulated currency is designed to go in whatever way is currently beneficial to china. Since they are currently mass exporters, they benefit from a cheap currency. However, as the world is collapsing, they will slowly ramp up their currency until they become quite expensive. At that point, the world will have no production capabilities anywhere, so they'll have no choice but to pay tribute to china to simply survive after all. This will also let china import labor and outside produces for cheap.

Yes, it's always the cheapest way to do that. Otherwise you can do norbert's gambit. Try something like bili or bidu perhaps.
CADCHF and (short) EURCAD usually have good positive interest but I wouldn't recommend EUR, and you shouldn't care about interest here anyway.
But the goal here is more to convert your money via the forex market, for which you don't end up holding the pair in the end, so the LIBOR doesn't really matter.

Whats so good?
They are tokenizing commodities. Starting with Liquid Natural gass. Then precious metals to follow quickly after. They will also create a market for ESG graded commodities. Whats so big about ESG graded commodities? Companies that don't use child slave labour can sell their product at a premium because it can be tracked back to their source and verified. Backed by mining billionaire robert friedland. Also have plans for ID++ which is a decentralized identiy protocol. 9 patent applications already filed for tokenized commodity trading. Could maybe see them move to stocks after. Already have singapore approval to launch in Q2 this year.

Air Canada is not guaranteed returns and is very risky right now. Historically, Air Canada went bankrupt twice and only got bailed out the third time they were going to go bankrupt. Air travel is stupidly expensive and the losses they've made so far will not be recovered for the next 10 years. It's not entirely clear what will happen to them and how the price will react. Other problems like the boeing 747 MAX (they owned a lot of these last I checked), which they have to completely get rid of, can further impact them.
It's a very risky but potentially nicely rewarding trade.

Anon, you know the government is more than the PM right? Garth Turner is a well known financial advisor and correspondent, who was part of both Lib and Con governments. He basically got ousted from both as well for being too transparent.
He runs greaterfool.com, which is one of the few sensible places to get financial opinions in Canada.
He conceived of the TFSA, and managed to get it implemented much to the chagrin of Flaherty, who insisted on giving it that retarded name.

The TFSA will forever be the government's greatest failure, since it is the one and only thing they've ever done to help the people instead of destroying them even more: clearly it was a massive mistake on their part and never wanted this to happen.

Generally you shouldn't bother with banks, beside their flat trade fees which are higher than brokerages like ibkr or questrade, they also tend to have additional fees, a really bad platform (expect it to often be down and to have a fairly broken web UI), no or little non-web tooling, etc.
WST is "mommy I'm scared"-tier. It's fine to start in there, but keep in mind that closing TFSAs has various implications, and you can't just move money in and out of a TFSA easily, such as to transfer to another broker.
Note that WST has 0 fees for canadian stocks, it's only for US stocks that they have their massive fees.
If you do go with a bank, make it the bank you do the rest of your banking with, because they can often give you e.g. no additional account fees and perhaps even lower commissions if you call them.

Fair point. You could. To be honest, might pick up some CCW myself after seeing your post.

But to answer - I like FCC because I think refining capacity is a national security issue going forward. If we go in heavy on EV worldwide I wouldn't be surprised if China started to close the tap eventually to keep supply for their own. Relatively few west countries have refinery capacity, FCC would provide that. Also, FCC has been given some gvt tendies to develop, which for me is bullish. I think trudope will keep pumping, and I don't think tories will stop it if they get in. Greens, I expect, would pump even harder if they had some say in balance of power. NDP might not, but kek.

There are other players in the mining game, but there's only 1 permitted refinery on the continent, for whatever that's worth. (Note - there's also some danger of non-CO battery chemistry becoming more prevalent...I think GM had said they'd done something to this effect).
