you can learn how a carburetor works by just playing with it, you don't need to take a class on it

Well it's a little more than just feeling things out. Figure out a handful of chart patterns that work for you and stick to them, then consider them in the context of the prevailing trend, also how far out price is away from the moving averages etc. None of it gives you a definitive answer on what happens next, and that's where the intuition comes in to tie it all together and make a decision based on balance of probabilities (i.e. generally when I see x pattern with y trend and z standard deviation move, this happens)

>Figure out a handful of chart patterns that work for you and stick to them
patterns are self-fulfilling prophecies
so it depends on the type of stock you would be playing.
are you squaring off vs certain types of traders (long whales, short meth-heads)? what patterns do THEY look for and how do THEY act around these patterns.

i'm just curious if there is different ways to go about these things
like paying attention to moving averages, volatility, volume, all the momentum oriented indicators etc.
and "getting to know" a stock, so to speak
or perhaps getting to know the type of algos or traders you are against

there are obvious things to be aware of like psychological resistances/supports like whole-dollar amounts, for example

when you are "playing" a stock, you are against a group of people, and certain types of people
what matters is how they think and feel and how they're prone to react, which is reflected in the stocks action
