The spelling and pronunciation originates from a Homestar Runner short from 2005 (Google "BisCasFri") The spelling and pronunciation became a running gag in the series and eventually spread enough to become somewhat of a meme itself in the fandom and overlapping communities. Then at some point around 2010 when the original shibe photo was posted someone referred to it as a doge, it stuck, and the rest is history.
