One of the biggest upsides of unmanned airframes is their ability to withstand high g maneuvers due to lack of a pilot. Actual flying would be AI with direction, not outright control, by the manned aircraft, with the drones carrying out orders rather than direct control by the pilot. We've moved away from two-seaters so that would put too much load on the pilot. If maneuvering was necessary the drones would do it automatically. There's plenty of room in the air so pathfinding/collision avoidance isnt as big a problem as you might think.
