If you place a market buy the price could literally rocket to anywhere. You're saying "I'll buy at whatever the price happens to be when this order hits the books". Well if no one is selling it can get out of hand, $2600 is not even unreasonable. Lots of people placed limit sell orders at between $1000 to $100,000 so you could just end up buying one of those.
