Well their Colomac project is fairly early stage and in the middle of buck nowhere so they will need to explore for years before beginning mine development imho. Also obviously steep capital is required to get the necessary infrastructure in place. Other than that, they're a fantastically cheap explorer with a massive and highly prospective project package in their hands!

If the squeeze goes through on Friday then banks will have to decide between bailing out some hedgefund subsidiaries or getting some free $$$ from Powell. If the banks eat the loss then they will have to liquidate a large amount of their holdings. Some of these holdings will be COMEX futures and will be traded for below their sticker gold value. If enough of it is liquidated and taken up by people who want to redeem for the metal could this cause a bull run? Perhaps even crash the Jewmex once and for all?

The alternative is that Powell just prints and hands the bags in the dead of night like usual, in which case it's the status quo. Slight bull case for gold, but it's price will remain suppressed probably.

Premium over "spot" price is what you pay for the privilege of holding your own physical stock. As you pointed out 30% is the norm, you will be hard pressed to find much of a deal. Buying junk silver (old coins) or silver shot (small waste pieces from jewelry making / smelting) are you best places to start, you will be able to find that close to spot price. Nice coins with protective packaging will always command more.

A lot of the markup is just supply chain related - there isn't a silver shortage but there was a bit of a bullion shortage in mid-2020 after the huge price dip. Cull grade coins are usually (but not necessarily) pretty banged up. By definition, culls are coins that would have been pulled by banks from circulation and send back to the mint for smelting into new money. Think old quarters that have been in circulation so long that they're basically slick, all the surface detail rubbed down. One of my peace dollars was a cull coin, and it has a gouge on the obverse a small bit missing from the rim. But if you're only interested in the maximum silver/fiat you can buy, culls are fine because even though you're getting a hair less silver mass per coin, they carry much lower premiums.

The only problem with the silver backed currency thesis is that would actually be a return to sound bullion money, the very antithesis of the US government. You cannot grift nearly as easily with a sound dollar as you can with a fiat dollar. Russia and China only buy gold because the USD is a tool of imperilist power. If they had their way, their paper currencies would the world reserve and they would printing into oblivion. More likely, the silver is being kept in US vaults because that means its out of the hands of those who would use the metal to combat the USD. Just like how we blew up Iraq and Libya in the name of "liberty" just when they started plans to dedollarize themselves.

Strange how the countries hoarding the most gold, China and Russia, are suddenly becoming public enemies number 1. yeah generics are good to go. generally they stick 1-2$ over spot. and condition really means fuck all. unless they are san fran stockpile coins, they hold value. from a mint your looking at better resale and easier to move generally if they stay nice. but the metal value should be your focus. ounces over audience so to speak

The Focus on the Chinese and Russian gold hoards is primarily due to their size. Both nations have a large PM mining sector and their governments buy up a large portion of what comes out of the ground. India has a ton of gold, but mostly in the hands of its population rather the government, and Brazil is open to being paid in gold or gold equivalents in trade for its food exports.

The most the US can hope to do is force some semi-equitable ratio between their silver peg and the BRICS gold peg. The US can definitely win a war with China, but they're just going to wait for them to start it. All the bluster about 'muh russia' is just talk. They spent the last decade using their declining man power to stake out their territory and are digging in, hoping that between their nukes, their grain production, their mines, and their gas they can ride out demographic twilight.

We're moving to a multipolar world again, and while the US is still the biggest stick, its going to mostly swing it at the new world to keep it in line. Invest in US petrochemical companies with patents and plans for using methane as a polymer feed stock once you make it with your PM gains.
