Waiting until you have a good, clean shot is about respect for the life you're about to take, and weighing the full action and consequence cycle with a clear eye. Not picking up a package of meat at the grocery then bitching about the price. I can take a life to feed my family while still having a sense of value and loss about the animal. You also learn some things. One, you're a little bitch. Two, animals never seem to feel sorry for themselves. Survival is all they know. They don't complain, they don't whine unless it's out of pain, and they'll literally run themselves to death trying to get away from you. On broken legs, punctured lungs, you name it. yep that's a standard farming technique here in the USA. Basically you slit the sac then tug the nuts out until the cords break, they have really thick blood vessels so the stretching helps to significantly reduce bleeding as it makes the vessel both narrower and the trauma to the region promotes lots of clotting enzymes to be released. pigs are not given painkillers to keep cost down as much as possible, in fact it's extremely uncommon for a vet to castrate pigs as the farmers profit margins on pork are pretty tight.
