I use Questrade so when I buy a US stock it does exchange it the first time then if I sell the stock it will keep the currency seperate as USD in the account. I don't usually buy canadian stocks. Also have a seperate account on Wealthsimple but its basically a shittier version of Robinhood that is only good if you are only buying canadian stocks otherwise they rape you on currency exchange.
