You can still send BTC to L2 and post buy orders. The way it is now in beta and without liquidity aggregation is old-school P2P. If you make enough noise, you might be able to find someone who will sell to you on the DEX.
Right now, you have to keep the DEX open while you have buy orders posted. Fortunately, the LN manager itself has a very reliable backup system in place. If you have buy orders posted and your computer shuts off, it closes your orders and puts everything back in your LN channels where you can immediately repost them once you get your computer back up.

A new source of liquidity, SSUI (already done), and LN watchtowers will make it much more convenient. SSUI in itself made the DEX more convenient than any CEX
