hey /biz/, been hearing a lot about this project, and recently found out uniswap, aave and other main chains are using them for indexing data?

how is this not top 10 yet considering its backers?

If this wasn't a bull market it wouldn't .street, but when everything else is mooning and this piece of shit just crabs downward you're Actually losing money. You almost certainly bought your GRT with ETH. If you just held that ETH instead you'd have made money every pump. ETH was like $500 when this shitcoin was .70. now ETH is $1.3k and this shitcoin is .30. Yes, it is deprecating. Whether you believe in the project or notz you can't run from the reality of the fact they you're losing money by holding this in such a critical time for the markets.

Have fun losing money while everything else moons retard.

>> No.25783447

I just don't see how a GraphQL interface, even with the indexing, could ever bring about a project with long term value.

All modern (web) applications these days will be built using APIs...much as I expect dAPPs will do as they mature.

Hence, TheGraph to me looks like 'best practice' wrapped up in a token, and not a unique, defensible tech.

Just my thoughts after ~1 hours of research.

Can anyone add/input on this?

>> No.25783480

Not a bad sign, in a sea of shitcoins

But Grayscale and others make lots of bets - spray and pray.

>> No.25783560

I don't think this is a real comparison, not even Google in 1998.

I think it's much closer to facebook's graphQL with a fanciful indexing play.

>> No.25783662

>>25783447
Graph has made the “best practice” cheaper and faster than building proprietary APIs, which is why it is used by everyone in blockchain right now. It makes starting up new apps extremely easy which makes it very protected against new trends in the space.

You also aren’t addressing the fact that the data servicing itself is a major driver of value for consumers. Decentralized data services will be explosive

>> No.25783668

And finally, team look pretty lightweight - too lightweight to pull the vision off.

Correct me if wrong, but 2 of the 3 founders worked at a software design and build company in Germany. No disrespect, am sure they are good guys, but this is not exactly tier 1 enterprise grade expertise.

Yes, agree - they are handling something right now that no one wants to build. Equivalent is facebook's GraphQL - a best practice, not for profit language.

Re the data servicing/indexing element, this is the novel bit of TheGraph which I have only scratched the surface of.

Putting to one side and big picture, for the dAPPs that will really make it, they will build and provision their own production APIs....I don't see them paying tech tax for to use someone else pipes.

>they will build and provision their own production APIs
This will likely stay true for a time, but a sufficiently advanced Graph network would likely be cheaper and easier than a siloed API meaning there’s virtually no reason not to use it

It’s like saying Apple will just build its own internet rather than use a public network. There’s literally no reason to do that

Am definitely seeing your bull case re a graph network adopted and at scale. It makes logical sense to tap into something everyone else is using.

That said, there will be taxes to pay for this convenience...otherwise why hold GRT....and those taxes can only go up so much, right?

>> No.25784175

>>25783915

Yes, early aggregation and unification of the data is a smart idea = cheaper and faster (to get going) but will the biggest dAPPs continue to use TheGraph as they scale or look for cheaper direct API access to the data they actually need.

TheGraph for data discovery? Then when you have it worked out...go direct and avoid the taxes?

The network will determine the market price for queries. People value the service the graph provides and will assign it a value. We’ll see what that is, but an advanced graph network will return value to early investors at practically any query price. Especially if this network extends beyond blockchain, which the team has said they intend to do.
