I think the tether fud is just fud, because tether mcap is $20B and btc mcap is $600B, so if btc is propped up by air because usdt is fake (it isn’t) then it’s not by a lot. Yes there’s a high volume of trades using usdt each day but they could use something else.
That said, that doesn’t mean weak hands won’t sell in fear and whales take an opportunity to sell even more to trigger stop losses and eventually the whales scoop up btc at bargain prices...but I think if you intend to hold until the end of the year anyway, this blip won’t matter. If it’s going to be $100k eoy it’s going to be $100k eoy regardless if we dump back to $18k now for a little while. But I doubt we will, the whales can’t play their games as easily when institutions stand ready to buy the dips.

They are not using XLM though, they will just copy the code to run their own network. That’s the whole problem with xlm and xrp, they are not trustless setups, which is why their transactions are so fast and cheap compared to real decentralized, trustless cryptos. The network works fine if you trust the nodes, which you have no real reason to do with xlm/xrp “in the wild” if they ever let anyone run nodes (“permissionless”). Currently you guys trust the nodes that got permission from Stellar or Ripple with your coin, fine, trust them if you want. But governments won’t. What a government that realizes it is late to the game in developing a cbdc might do is buy a clone of xlm from Stellar and use it to run their own cbdc token on their own network of trusted nodes. Which is great for Stellar (or Ripple, same idea) but not for token holders.
However. For a quick buck, xlm looks very well positioned at the moment to just eat up xrp’s mcap as the coin xrp schizos might be able to escape over to while still saving some face. And that’s frankly not an opportunity to be sneezed at, I’m almost tempted to buy a bit, but just to be clear, it’s not a long term hold, perhaps not even for the duration of this bull run (2021).
