25563390 No.25563390 [Reply] [Original]

US citizenship is unironically the worst for big bag holders looking to cash out. Even if you move to Belarus, where crypto capital gains are untaxed, the US still insists you must report income made abroad.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/rogerhuang/2019/06/24/seven-countries-where-cryptocurrency-investments-are-not-taxed

And you can't open accounts on foreign exchanges with a US passport thanks to KYC rules.

The proper way to fix this is to get at least one additional passport in a country that doesn't suck -- many ways to do this but here's where you can buy one (https://www.citizenship-program.com/citizenship-program.html)) -- then renounce US citizenship and never look back.

Currently reading Nomad Capitalist by Andrew Henderson, highly recommended -- but do realize that it's a sales funnel for his company's consulting services.

And I'm told the process is not even possible because COVID has closed the offices and they can't figure out Skype.
But what if you live overseas and just don't file US income tax anymore? Seems to me the worst that can happen is US can cancel your passport. But if you have at least one other, that's not so bad. Can't imagine your residence country would extradite you over that.

To be clear, you often don't have to physically live where you have residency (or maybe just a few days/weeks) and your residency doesn't have to be in the country of your passport. Your residency determines where you pay income tax.
Also, you can have many passports if you want. Can be useful for travel, buying real estate, opening bank/exchange accounts, starting corporations

The only way to fix this unironically would be to do something about the corruption in this country which has effectively transformed its citizens into indentured servants. Nothing will change unless the swamp is drained. If it goes on much longer they will start taxing LTCG and even unrealized gains in order to kick out the ladder and destroy the middle class permanently (under the guise of “taxing the rich”). These rankings are total bullshit though. The top 10 countries are where people are the most depressed. Most alcohol and antidepressant consumptions, suicides etc Like don't tell me people are happier in Finland than in Philippines

It's the opposite though. Nordics are high IQ so they aren't satisfied with their wagie mediocrity. 3rd world is low IQ so they are still content living in appalling conditions. These rankings are just bizarre.

Never once did any US taxes. I heard If you pay taxes in one country, they'll leave you alone. It's only if you for example live in a country with no capital gains tax and you cash out of a mil in crypto or something that they start coming after you.
Either that or there's just bigger fish to fry. Idk.
