It depends on the explorer, most want to just find a resource and upgrade it for option / sale, while others are really in it to build a mine. Dolly Varden for example will likely option or make a partnership with Hecla to develop a mine than move on to another project, while Ascot Resources for example wants to become a regional player with their mill operation running material from any number of smaller partnerable projects.

Producers can't grow more gold in their plots. And there has been an absolute CRUSH on exploration and discovery for gold resources. IF you have the cash flow from your mines then you have to expand and/or start financing other projects.
Explorers with guaranteed reserves are how you short circuit years of uncertainty from acquiring and then assaying new land claims. Producers will pay huge premiums to acquire promising explorers with known mineralizations.
Eskay Mining has been my baby for months because of its proximity to neighbors that will want to buy up their promising plots from their drill results. I think its the best short term speculative play in gold that there is.

I assume it's much like the US, where the first producer has rights to the second producer's metal, but both companies would rather pocket the gold than spend it on lawyers so they consolidate as partners. Where you see courtroom mining is when one party is producing and the other is not. In those cases it's often worth it to haul the non-producing party into court and bankrupt them with legal fees.

I just look at the freely available information and the pitch that the company has and evaluate from there. They need to hit a sweet spot of having a good claim, infrastructure to operate a potential mine, legal blessings from the government/locals and other miners, and a good/honest management team. That's also roughly from easiest to hardest to determine, but the company shouldn't be omitting any of those areas in their pitch.
Generally there are old government studies on any place that exploration is being done and I dig those up to see if there's anything interesting (I have a degree in geophysics but it isn't my day job, anyway ymmv on reading technical reports/studies).
I'm just looking at exploration so these are microcaps that aren't producing, and I can expect that they will keep diluting to raise capital as they get further along (or fold).

Upward cycle - $28 then $32 will be resistances but it could go as high as $38 range by Feb 28 if it continues what it did in Dec 2020. I am leaning towards this being the case but I could be wrong. I think there are a lot of factors pushing it up right now

The basic gestalt is that you make money if the stock hits at least a certain point within the timespan of the option, but you lose everything and you don't.

The whole enchilada is that options are nuanced. The price of the option depends on the current stock price and other shit like the length of time remaining on the option and the present volume. You are actually just paying a premium for the ability to exercise the right to buy 100 shares of stock at the option price. The cost of an option varies wildly; for example, my GOLD calls are down like 10% and the stock hasnt really moved much at all since I've purchased them, but if it does bounce back to $26 a share in February then I should have around 50% profit if I sell the option at that time. Options have numerous metrics (called the Greeks) that impact the price of an option, but just try to buy them way the fuck out over a year at a slightly above current stock price or head over to /smg/ to be a degenerate gambler.

I've read enough into Barrick to trust that they are going to go up a decent chunk over the next year, and I'll probably sell all or most of the calls after a year to reduce risk and still avoid regular taxation. Silver in good times has about 0 monetary value imputed into its price. In bad times all of its possible monetary value gets imputed into its price. The last 30 years have been constant suppression of the bad times, starting with the Asian Contagion and Russian Ruble debt default in the late 90s.

In the specific case of silver and gold, because no one cares to check on their gold in good times, it gets diluted and diluted on the market with paper gold and then suddenly when people want it (because they suddenly wake up to counterparty risk that was always there) they demand the real thing and the banks have to scramble.

If you don't understand how this stuff works you will get wiped out in something over your lifetime.

It can be, if it works out. Timing is crucial in that regard. I made a great deal on SLV calls this summer only to see them slowly bleed out as silver crabbed downward. I'd recommend buying junior miners for some nice leverage with less risk than calls on ETFs. Many here don't like the ETFs in general.

At the moment I've been loading up on June 2021 CDE $15 and FSM $11 calls, a few SLV June $25 calls, lots of shares of CDE, FSM, and ASM, alongside a hefty physical stack. I also have a suicide stack of January 15th SLV $29, $31, and $33 calls, but that's only because I've been too stubborn to sell what I kept from this summer. Truly will be an act of God if I make a profit on those.

I have 0 experience of buying options. Am based in EU and not sure even what exchange to check. But as I understand it you can call a certain price and the more "unlikely" it is to happen within a certain timeframe the cheaper options are. The timeframe could be a couple of years right? If you're trading Euro options (fundamentally different than American options) and turbos, just trade allocated bullion and miners.
European options can only be exercised at expiration so if you had 6 month options and there was a supply squeeze everyone expected to be fixed in 5 months, you wouldn't be able to make money on the supply squeeze. American options can be exercised at any point up to the expiration date.
