Stable coins actually help make the system more secure because instead of the exchange holding all of your money and your crypto now some of that is being held by an additional party. This helps to prevent shit like mt. gox where the creator can just take the money and run.

Stablecoins representing fiat should be audited on a regular basis and transparent about their reserves yes, but when you talk about fiat being superior just remember US dollar is as, if not more, fucked up as Tether with their fractional reserve that lets banks create „dollar” (credit on accounts) out of thin air, so I believe DAI and other programmable stablecoins are infinitely better they just need to perfect their technology to be bulletproof
