What's your opinion on trade school/working in the trades in general? I'm strongly considering doing a 3 week HVAC program and getting a job as a technician. I like working with my hands and it seems there's no shortage of jobs.

get in with johnson controls and join the union. you will have plenty of time to invest on the side and do other hobbies. my friend has been with them for over a decade now and makes good money, health, medical dental, vacation, vehicle and a great retirement. He manages to trade on the side and does a lot of HAm radio shit too. Good luck!

thanks, anon, I'll look into it. seems like they're based in Ireland but have a lot of opportunities in my area. do you know how difficult it is to get in with a union? my only knowledge of the process is through a friend who joined IBEW so I'm not sure how similar the process is.

If you are interested in STEM, getting a degree relatively cheaply through communuty college and state schools is a good way to go. If you just want to make money and aren't interested in learning then college is not worth it and trades would be better. Be aware that most trades will be hard on your body and you'll have to hang out with boomers and two digit IQ normans a lot. In white collar STEM jobs you get soijacks and karens but also a few fellow based autists.

Yeah, I did university (graduated with a degree in history, pls no bully) and really don't want to return to that environment. I sincerely don't mind interacting with the majority of working-class people - or rather, I prefer it to being around the soulless husks I've encountered in corporate and academic settings. What I find most appealing about a trade is not being confined to the same workplace day in and day out and the ability to see the results of my work right in front of me. Also might be a bit autistic and machines are fun idk.

Low voltage is a good field to get into just like Johnson Controls that was mentioned earlier.
