I mined and spent and lost various amount of XMR on legal shops (no, srsly) in the past 4 years, some have touched exchanges, some didn't, some went in and came back

I still should be able to get mining pool txs and the wallet I use is still the same.

If you are concerned I would talk to a tax expert. There are people who specialize in these sorts of things. If you are willingly paying taxes the government probably won't pay you much mind, especially at your holdings which don't amount to too much.

all three of these things already happen, but I expect it to get worse over time.
1. government propaganda - e.g. claiming people can be tracked by Monero through the media thereby making it seem like it isn't ideal for private use cases (similar to what they do with Tor). They can also fud the cryptocurrency by using sock puppet accounts on message boards.
2. normies making the Monero community suck - So far Monero has achieved its growth because it cares about being used as cash. So if the community gets flooded with dumb normies, it will then lead to moonboyism instead of continuing the pursuit of privacy and scaling improvements. Fortunately, it would appear that we still have at least one year of Monero being outside of mainstream notice, but it's only a matter of time before journalists begin covering the new, powerful crypto being adopted by dark net markets...
3. butthurt bitcoin maxis - This isn't really that big of a deal, but expect a lot of tribalism to come to head with Monero, with the threat of a stronger form of currency they will get deranged and do their best to fling poo at Monero. If Bitcoin maxis are smart, they should recognize Monero for what it is and embrace atomic swaps (this is, long term, what will happen anyways); but, I wouldn't really expect much from Bitcoin maxis other than the same fudding nonsense we've heard in these generals over the past year, such as the classics "infinite supply" or "pedocoin". The difference here though is some of these Bitcoin maxis will have a lot of followers, of which a lot of them don't want their investment to seem weak, and therefore they will jump on board with whatever nonsense comes out of their mouths.

Of course you should do your own research, but I am in complete agreement with you. Monero has use case, and this separates it from an entire market of scams and empty promises.
And to add to my earlier post, you asked if Monero being banned is feasible and the answer to that is no. Similar to Bitcoin, Monero as a tool can be used for illegal purposes, but so are countless things one can have in their possession legally (e.g. dollars, guns, cars). The government has zero legal precedence to ban a p2p cryptocurrency. Literally zero. An ensuing legal battle would be extremely complex and would involve every other cryptocurrency, so therefore the government isn't going to come right out and drop too much clout on Monero -- they don't want to tip their hand, so to speak -- so instead they do a mixture of the things I mentioned in the previous post. They are essentially running out the clock before Monero becomes well enough known, which at that point they hope to have enough of an understanding to trace it (and they won't).
Additionally, there has been a big movement lately within Monero for compliance, as we had the legal white paper that was released in the fall by Perkins-Coie, as well as 'Comply First', an outreach program funded by Tari Labs created to lobby towards exchanges that Monero is well within their legal right, and that the government is completely powerless legally do do anything.
