Get this, they don't even have a list of all eligible voters. That's why you have to "register" to vote instead of simply getting invited to vote like in a developed country. If I register for an absentee ballot or mail ballot I get turned away at the polling station because I'll be struck from the list. They don't even have a freaking list to be struck from!

I'm getting cranky if I'm third in line at my local polling station (which I expect to be at most a 10min casual walk away) and they literally stand in line for hours at the single polling station for their whole county. I have no idea why they put up with all this shit. It's like they didn't update the rules that matter since the 1800s while at the same time running insanely dodgy modern election tech like unaudited voting machines that don't produce a paper trail. Looking at the aftermath of the current election simply confirms that nobody in power over there actually cares about democracy or the will of the people - it's all just about scamming elections and suppressing enough voters so your party wins. And now because of """fraud""" they want to tighten voting regulations even more when they're already the backwater of the West in terms of practical voting access. Not to speak that in many place your vote literally doesn't make a difference (first past the post is insane that way) or counts way less than in other places (because clearly land should vote and not people - after all the US revolted against a monarchy so they could instate feudalism again for their Senate and Electoral College).

You have to stop thinking of the US as a developed democracy and adjust your expectations accordingly. Yes, they were the first modern democracy, and that was truly groundbreaking stuff in the 1700s. But then they somehow stopped updating and got stuck with all those rules nobody had ever tried out before that are now completely archaic.
