Thank you for the reasonable post.
I'm pissed off about the dilution but I'm not as blind to the objective of debt/equity rebalancing as most people here. You know the volatility we have experienced, that comes from the low number of shares being traded, and it's not ideal for management. It raises borrowing costs for one thing.
>What are your arguments on why you think GME is still more than a Cohen speculative play?
If the bankruptcy uncertainty goes away market cap will rise even with $100 million dilution. I can't position myself after the uncertainty clears up, it will be too late. If this is the CHWY of videogames, my god we're going to be rich. Forget that, even the current board will probably survive bankruptcy, with that I'm just looking for a $2 billion valuation while there's still less than 90 million shares outstanding, how about that for a conservative target? $22.22 a share.
>Would you still give a shit about GME at this valuation if the short interest wasn't there?
It would be less of my port. Maybe 5% instead of 15.

look im still pissed off about Sherman so maybe I admit i'll come across as hostile as I try to play devil's advocate but here's what I have against that $2 billion valuation

I think it's easy to look at GME, see their ~7 billion revenues for past 12 months and think they should be valued at 0.25x or even 0.5x of revenues. But Q3 showed that's very naive and/or speculative. They're still very overextended and couldn't turn a profit when pretty much the whole b&m sector managed to do it thanks to tax benefits. It was very discouraging to see revenues to keep declining faster than they're reducing SG&A costs. Revenues to continue declining hard as they seek to close 1000 more stores. Note that as per Q2, they recapture <40% of sales from closing down those stores. Makes it fallacious to compare revenues to market cap when Gamestop might close off the European stores too. No one asked about the Microsoft partnership during the call so no details about that either (they prob wouldn't have answered anyways). Lastly I'm not too sure how to feel about November only being 16.5% YoY sales, even if new consoles were limited, the sales of Switches should have been a huge boon this season

there's a lot of shit I have against Gamestop right now that it just re-iterates I'm putting money on Cohen, not Gamestop. I almost forgot Sherman was the same person crazy enough to argue that Gamestop was an essential service through peak fears of covid

>They're still very overextended and couldn't turn a profit when pretty much the whole b&m sector managed to do it thanks to tax benefits.
Yes you have a point there but this was expected, if not quite this bad, at the end of a 7 year console cycle. People still went to JCP and Dillards and Party City but there was nothing to buy, this makes sense. It was the perfect time to close down stores.
>recapture <40% of sales from closing down those stores
Disappointing, I agree, even with end of cycle.
>Makes it fallacious to compare revenues to market cap when Gamestop might close off the European stores too.
No, the new console cycle is an easy bet on reviving lost revenue. The digital revenue sharing most pessimistic case is also an easy bet. European revenues will matter but the current market cap is still ridiculous.
>November only being 16.5% YoY sales
He should have given the numbers behind the Black Friday decision. This falls under don't care, end of cycle.
I have listened to people setting up the stores for the new cycle. They are preparing now, the last generation is fully dead.
If it matters, I'm pretty sure there's more institutional money that agrees with me than is betting against me at this point.
>I almost forgot Sherman was the same person crazy enough to argue that Gamestop was an essential service through peak fears of covid
Nobody is protesting this, there's no good will impairment, so it seems like a good move. Pic related.

irrc Dillard's has relatively low running costs since they own their stores. But yeah regardless, DDS was really impressive with 1.43 EPS on Q3

Party City was amazing too, they legitimately deserve squeezing out all of those shorts this year with the results they put out on Q3. The team behind that is what shareholders wish Gamestop had
it's very envious to see when all Gamestop had to do was perform mediocrely on Q3 to start squeezing out shorts, instead Sherman sabotaged it
Gamestop was definitely running up solidly right after close, it was nothing like the seizure volatility right after Q2. At least of course until people noticed the buried news about an at-the-market stock offering (which i guess the algos couldn't scan and recognize immediately)

Checked, fuck Sherman. I still don't get your price target pessimism. GME's premium over revenues is a damn joke, the $2 bil figure I gave is still so understated because I'm trying to be pessimistic and account for things like you said, European closures and general incompetence. Forgive me for using the o word but an omnichannel retailer is worth more than 0.5x revenue. I always wanted to be positioned for middle or end of 2021. The squeeze is just icing on the cake and if you pay attention to the S3 report, or the fact that many institutional shorts are underwater at stupid undervaluations like $7 x 65 million shares, it's likelier than ever. someone on the RK chat said it really nicely.
I'd rather buy Gamestop at $20/share with Cohen confirmed on the wheel than to buy Gamestop at $12/share with Sherman
Downside isn't that much at this point (for shares) when market cap is barely above what they hold in cash, but opportunity cost is the the problem. A drop back to $11 range will still hurt a lot too

I wouldn't say that Cohen taking over is for sure either. His lawyer's experiences leaves a lot to imagination, but this is still all the whims of a single person in the end. Justin won't tell anyone what he was discussing with RC, all I can tell from him is that even Justin is increasingly bearish against the current management now

i wouldn't say that. We've reached the point where a +30% day would just bring us back to $16
It's definitely valid to just buy in after the spark is started. Going back to Party City, that thing went up +30% after its Q3. I'm sure a lot of people were scared off into buying it, but then it proceeded to rally up another +100% since its Q3 was legitimately good and squeeze off the few short sellers that were still in it. It only has ~5% short interest at this point
Vaccines helped a lot but going back to $5 (its Q3 2019 valuation) was definitely inevitable in hindsight with their Q3 being better than pre-covid

I mean at 4 cents, 2B in profits and a Nasdaq listing that means they're going for 5 bucks at least so that'd be INFINITE MONIES but I don't know how trustworthy that shit is. I mean a 1000 dollar investment would be 100k at such margins.

Some more advice: If the stock price is approaching the strike and you think you are going to be executed, you have two options: 1.) Let the calls execute, and sell your shares for a profit. 2.) If you wish to hold onto your shares and continue trading, as you notice the upward trend towards the strike price you buy back the same call you sold, eliminating your obligation to sell. You may then proceed to sell another further dated and higher striked call. This is referred to as "rolling".

This next bit of "COVID bad news" will keep markets going even higher. Increasing unemployment numbers is very good for stocks since it just means that corporations will spend less on wagies as they inevitably bring in more automation to replace the workforce. Now it is true that wagies are saving every nickel and dime thinking that there will be a rainy day after this one, but this is as "rainy" as it gets.

The next stock market correction will be post-vaccine, and when the economy is "open for business". Rehiring employees and paying living wages can be enough to bankrupt plenty of companies.

Fallacy! And a common one at that! Particular sectors go through hype buying phases every single year whether the indexes are in bull or bear market. There are always opportunities. You won't catch all of them. It only takes a couple really good trades a year to beat the indexes and potentially make substantial gains. The main thing is you have to keep your risk managed properly so your account isn't bleeding out while you wait for the next thing to come around. Central idea of swing trading is just to have market exposure, keep losses minimal, and wait until you hit a runner. Trying to force things always leads to losses you didn't need to take.

Lockdown where people are still going to school and work?
Germany has generally been better with their lockdowns. Maybe bars and restaurants are less important there

Voluntary suicide of a major website on a gamble this will help them keep their sponsors and credit card transaction privileges. It's quite something. I think it will kill them completely. Porn is not like social media. Pornhub is not youtube. There are so many other choices available, the internet consumer demographic and the amateur producters will simply move on to the others without a hitch.
