It's a lot of work just to break even. Probably fun to do as a hobby if you've already made it, but not exactly something you should expect to be profitable anytime soon after starting it.

Fuck farms, buy land and re-wild and get carbon capture grants.

>> No.24800954

Farming is barely profitable.

If you don't have at least 70ha+ (perfect would be 100ha+) of your own land and rent the rest, like 200ha+, you don't even start it.
You either inherit a farm, where investment is needed to improve it, or you don't go in it if you don't have at least 2mil for everything.
Why such huge sums to start? You do want reliable equipment and be it your own, you want insurance, you want to have a nice profit out of huge operation to get your family food at least. When force major sweeps through your fields, insurance at least cover your expenses, you have a pocket money and you are ready for next year and maybe you get some travel time. You don't sit poor, your wife is happy, your kids aren't hobbos.
If your operation is smaller, don't. You will waste your time and you will float on poverty line every single season. Except, if you don't want to grow grains and you want to grow something labeled "organic", "suitable for queers", "gluten", or other marketing crap, yes there is money to make, but it's usually college kids projects who live in the scene and see what those people will pay extra for. These are very niche farms, go at it if you want. I live around hundreds of farmers, I see who makes money, who don't. The size of land requirements for farming at profit is getting bigger and bigger every year, it's not huge difference, but it's growing, small operations are dying.
