wtf what do I do now, my ledger is in the family safe far from me and country forbids to move due to covid, it's all the savings I have
I generated the keys myself though but didn't wipe the device

When you "set up your ledger as new" it generates a new seed. No need for factory reset or anything of the sort. Only way it could be compromised would be if they hacked the firmware, but the app checks for integrity the first time you set it up. Risk of someone stealing your keys is extremely low.

Yes I know about Trezor, no it's not a fucking issue. My hotwallet carries only as much crypto as I expect to spend, which is fuck all. Almost everything is on the paperwallet. And the odds of some fucking nerd actually managing to steal the hot wallet and hack it before I restore to another hardware wallet and transfer everything to cold storage is very slim.
