just because you are new -- charts mean nothing. you can't do magic analysis based on them. some charts follow a pattern, like bitcoin, but that isn't because of charts themselves but because of fundamentals of the coin, like with bitcoin and halvings approx. every 4 years.
xrp is a centralized coin, meaning it is wholly and completely owned and managed by a specific company. its charts follow nothing except for a perpetual dump. a few big unique raises are clear currency manipulation. id say otherwise if it went up slowly across several days, but it never does that
do NOT invest in XRP unless you are a magic trader and can get out in time. it will NOT be worth anything in future

yes, DCA basically exclusively only into btc and eth. in fact much more into eth than btc. ive recently put in a bit too much during the giant dip in march, so i was building back up my cash reserves for emergencies. now im waiting for a dip, which might be coming soonn
after a few years i did put in a bit into A FEW other tokens, but literally just 2. im in those ""for the tech"" and one worked out really well, another im waint for it to work out, but both are a significant bet.
the first one is pnk and i got in in january with a significant amount, the other one is so underground and early that if i call it out i will immediately get called out for being a pajeet and liking a dead coin. however, it has to do with humanity on blockchain, which is what I think is the last missing piece of the puzzle.

no, i use solely coinbase. if you must buy and gamble on other shitcoins, use uniswap which is on ethereum. if you don't knwo what that is or how to use it -- youtube or google it, but it is basically a decentralized exchange built on ethereum with no documents or credit cards needed -- just ETH
i also use qtrade.io, which is a bit of a hint of what my other patrician coin of choice is. but don't worry about shitcoins. just get BTC and ETH, and you're set for the next few decades
just promise me you won't sell those two, no matter what. some days might look bleak, you might be down 75%, but it will come around. this is the new financial system of the future unraveling in front of your eyes. all of humanity's future transactions are going to be on some large public blockchain, and the way it is looking is it will be ethereum. bitcoin has a good shot of remaining a store of value too, but that's about it.

It really depends how poor you are
I'd think about it at least like this:
Whatever you buy in BTC multiply that unironically by $1 million 2020 USD and that's what you'll have by 2037
Some say even just .28 BTC will be 1% if we really become global reserve currency which would also likely have happened by then but only time will tell

On the other hand, ETH really does have the potential of going to $9-10k this cycle so I'd own some eth if I were poor
I used to own all eth until it peaked prematurely in 2017 and the eth/btc ratio has literally never recovered

I guess the idea is that bitcoin is the thing that you will not be able to get more of, until you sell the bubble and the bear market comes around, whereas dollars are just for arbitrage between other coins and btc
This is why oldfags primarily think in btc worth

my logic in buying ETH is that i want to learn everything about this stuff (crypto) from top to bottom. the other reason is that since bitcoin is obviously going to have a good run, it will drag along everything else with it, so ETH seemed like a reasonable investment.
i'm not too invested that this would ruin me if it went to $0, but i obviously want to make money.

My thesis is that if eth succeeds, chainlink will succeed more proportionally, but desu I have no idea how chainlink will perform in a bubble/mania phase since it did overperform in the bear market unlike any other altcoin, but who knows what it will do
My personal opinion is that link will be the wonderchild of this cycle that defies the market, much like eth was last time
There's an argument that according to Raoul Pal, the institutional investors right now are not talking about "crypto", they're talking about Bitcoin, whereas last time 2017 it was all retail investors who let the money flow down from btc into alts and indeed scams
Thus you might need a lower marketcap like chainlink to facilitate not getting cucked right between the not quite achieving the amazing gains of the few good altcoins, and missing out on the generational wealth potential of btc
