Welcome to XMR General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading privacy-coin!
Because Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, people can easily send money despite corrupt and broken governments or banks. This provides economic empowerment of individuals in oppressive countries or depressed economies.
Private financial history protects consumers and companies from price manipulation, supply chain exploitation, economic discrimination, or the like. Monero is the only cryptocurrency that has the features to serve as completely fungible, decentralized, electronic cash.

If you're new, feel free to ask any questions you like and a Monero Chad will be with you shortly.

I like monero, unfortunately it has been compromised and transactions can be traced by the feds.

Maybe it is time to look at alternatives like pirate.black and 0xMR

There is still much to look forward to. Monero is going to go on a tear these next couple years. The community being built on Biz is really amazing. We are going to make it everyone.

risky time to buy anything for a newbie imo
my parents asked me if they should buy some crypto a couple days ago, I told them not to. At their age, and financial stability, I don't think they need to take the risk of buying crypto near BTC ATH.
They bought the absolute top in the last bullrun, per the advice of my brother in law (and against my advice), I'm amazed they'd still consider it after that.

>> No.24609364

>>24609335
monero is usually profitable on a cpu, depending of course on your eldctricity costs and power efficiency. for consumer grade computers you'd get minimal profit, maybe a dollar a day if you're lucky, still it's free money and you support the network

eh, I'm not as worried about it as 2017 and probably won't sell much (I sold a chunk of my BTC at 19500 already), definitely not selling my XMR
The fact that BTC was able to recover after that substantial dip inspires a bit of confidence. This feels a bit different from 2017, which was manic and hyped, this is much more subdued. There's also a lot more infrastructure and public name recognition in crypto now than there was in 2017.
Could be completely wrong and we could get another big crash, guess we'll have to wait and see.

I personally use mining as heat in the winter. I'm gonna use the electricity to not freeze anyway, why not at least break even on it? Use a GPU miner like Ravencoin at the same time for max efficiency and comfy.

>> No.24609498

>>24609421
I'm not really worried about the big crash for losing mones as much as I'm worried that if btc actually crashes below ~10k again, nobody will ever trust it again and it will go down as a joke in history. we recovered from 2017 because all new markets get that one big hype bubble at the beginning, but doing it the same way a second time 3 years later will be absolutely fatal. I think there isn't currently a single person on earth that knows for sure where we're headed, but I'm optimistic, we recovered quickly from the last pullback and btc has held strong above 19k for many days now.

I'd just use a pool, the fees honestly aren't that bad.
I mine both ETH (GPU) and XMR (CPU) simultaneously on my old gaming rig that I hardly use anymore, both are connected to pools, works pretty well.
>>24609498
yeah that would be a potential death blow.
I don't think blockchain and distributed ledgers are going to die out, even if BTC dies, the technology behind it is gaining more and more use cases.

I would recommend pool mining too anon. Unless you are getting 15kh/s minimum, solo mining is playing the lottery. Go with a small pool. Anything over 200kh/s has pretty regular payouts and smaller pools are better for the network.
