They are planning to merge with Ford, they'll make F150 EV based on the cybertruck.

This actually doesn't sound retarded. I always figured the endgame for Tesla is to license their power train/battery technology/self-driving car technology to other manufacturers. Big auto manufacturers are pathetically behind Tesla on technology, but are light-years ahead on build quality and distribution. Tesla merging with someone like Ford would be fantastic for them. Ford gets the technology, Tesla gets better manufacturing/distribution/service infrastructure. Tesla could even still sell cars as a boutique manufacturer as part of the Ford brand.

To add, even GM could be a viable candidate. The original idea for a skateboard style chassis was put forth by GM with the ORIGINAL Volt concept car. At the time, Bob Lutz was busy consolidating GM's different chassis configurations between all the subsidiaries into a handful of universally standard configurations over all brands. The skateboard idea fell by the wayside because battery technology hadn't reached a point where an all-in approach on electrification would be viable as a production car. GM instead focused on the multi-fuel aspect of the Volt, with the primary fuel candidates being hydrogen and natural gas.
