You don't "invest" in tether. It doesn't appreciate in value. Its a peg to the US dollar. 1 tether = 1 USD. You can switch to tether (known in the industry as "tethering up") to wait out a crash and keep your capital safe.

It's a coin that is always priced at 1 Tether = 1 USD, they also back it and say they will pay you 1 USD per Tether no matter what (although there's actually no reports of anyone actually getting their money from them, because they have none). It's meant to allow traders to "exit" crypto without paying the fees of trading into fiat. They've been creating a shit ton of Tether coins recently as you can see in that graph, which has been pumping up the price of BTC since it's a proxy for USD (the fiat/USDT volume is decently high, so it is currently the only thing supporting this shitcoin, despite Tether's lack of funds).
