you basically have to KYC your metamask address with coinbase if you want to use coinbase to cash out those coins. it also means that, if crypto ever happens to be usable as payment method, only whitelisted addresses (which did KYC) are eligible for usage. so much freedom in 'murica.

No, it's a matter of the exchanges and you having to go through another step of verifying transactions. For example, let's say you buy crypto on Coinbase and then try to withdraw it to your account - now the govt will be able to decide if you're able to get that money. You'll need to do KYC or whatever else the regulation requires.

If anything, you need to get your crypto off of exchanges. Only use exchanges to buy crypto and immediately move it to your personal wallet. This is best practice anyways and most people already do this.

All in all, it would be another hurdle for crypto, a huge hurdle for DeFi, and is the govt just poking their nose in things. They can never stop the blockchain, but they can fuck around with exchanges.

>> No.24278684

“God I really wish I could answer that. But I’m under a non disclosure agreement with PolySign and I don’t and because they’re in stealth mode right now. I don’t know what I’m allowed to tell you. I can tell you that they’re in the custody business. And of course I can tell you that they’re doing it like in an amazing way. That you know Arthur and I are behind this we’re the lead guys on the technology and obviously like we’re doing it we think we’re doing it right. But unfortunately I don’t know what. I really wish I could tell you because it’s so freakin cool. I’m just bursting with wanting to tell people what we did. And they’re like oh no it’s still we’re still in stealth mode”

“Founded in 2017, PolySign has luminaries in both the cryptocurrency and financial services spaces working to solve the biggest problem in crypto today: custody” [...] “We’re paving the way for digital assets to become more mainstream, and we’ve got the team to do it”

“Our Opportunity: PolySign’s objective is to become be a leader in the growing digital assets space by providing institutional-level custodial and infrastructure support to a broad array of asset managers and exchanges. We believe that a secure, global, multi-currency, accessible solution is not only achievable but is also a requirement in order for digital assets to realize their full potential.”

“This proposed regulation would, we think, require financial institutions like Coinbase to verify the recipient/owner of the self-hosted wallet, collecting identifying information on that party, before a withdrawal could be sent to that self-hosted wallet,” Armstrong tweeted.

If true, the regulation would represent a broadside against the U.S. cryptocurrency industry like few ever levied by the federal government. It would force corporations to know every counterparty to their users’ crypto transactions, keeping logs, tracking movements, and verifying identities even before a transfer could take place.

It would also bring to pass the worst-case scenario envisioned by industry players when the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an intergovernmental body, told its member countries to apply the so-called travel rule to crypto businesses last year. This long-standing rule requires financial institutions to collect information about the sender and receiver of a money transfer. But it was ambiguous what that would mean when someone sends bitcoin from, say, their Coinbase account to an address controlled by a private key on a sheet of paper kept in a sock drawer.

Is the goblina opening an account in her country?
If so how are you getting the money to her to deposit in her bank account, especially in an argentina situation (cross-border capital controls)

If its a US account, how is this tax free? Is it because Biden is president and illegal goblinas don't have to pay taxes now?

bro people from other countries are free too enter here but they do it legally, just like my grandfather, same way someone leaving here enters for instance Poland legally. You go thru the LEGAL process of whatever country you chose. You must be from reddit

If it has the majority of the hashrate of the network, everyone. It would be difficult to determine if the NSA was doing something to split the network. Even if you could tell they were splitting the network, they could keep splitting any forks; it wouldn't be so much a single attack as an ongoing series of attacks to make the network difficult to use, and introduce FUD.

bitcoin is centralized in the sense that it all has to go on the same ledger and is readable by anyone. it's so ass-backwards i can hardly believe it has been called a "revolution".

I've been trying to warn people about this shit. Custodial wallets are a trap, meant to capture crypto user base and confine them within uncle sam's regulatory pen.

They consider this a compromise, or "amnesty", and it clears the way for dropping the hammer on trouble makers who don't user KYC exchanges or custodial wallets.

They are gonna progressively (lol) turn the crank on crypto, locking it down into a centralized AML/KYC second exchange layer more and more, and going after the new class of criminals who don't want to use this system.

Want to have crypto that you can move out of the country if shit gets real? Sell your good-goy-coins now before the feds shit on their value any harder, start taking cash out of ATMs up to your daily limit, and put it into Monero anonymously.

Imagine thinking a neolib admin that plans to print like drunken sailors and needs a strong dollar won't crack down 10x harder on crypto.

They are gonna shut off your escape routes out of fiat, chum. They're gonna print for UBI, and you're gonna pay that inflation tax to fund it goy, unless.... you buy stocks and help them keep the boomer ponzi going.
