Economics for brainlets pt 1
1. Scarcity exists. Everything in existence is scarce to some degree, and ultimately a human lifespan is scarce too
2. People have preferences
3. People take purposeful action to attempt to fulfill their preferences
4. Because of the fact that time scarcity exists, people must make decisions as to how they order their preferences.
5. Likewise, because resources are scarce, people must make decisions about what resources they prefer to accumulate.

23875650

>>23875639
Economics for brainlets pt 2
6. When they find it mutually beneficial, people will exchange resources to satisfy their preferences. This is a price; for example, 1 horse is worth 10 bags of wheat.
7. When an exchange no longer becomes mutually beneficial, people will stop exchanging resources.
8. When multiple people trade resources communally, a 'market price' develops for different resources according to scarcity, people's changing desire for different resources, what different resources are used for etc.
9. Scarcity is relative and everchanging, meaning that market prices are relative and everchanging. For example, a famine increases the price of food relative to clothing because food has increased in scarcity relative to clothing.
10. Bartering doesn't always allow mutually beneficial trades if both people don't have exactly what goods the other party desires. This is why money exists as a medium of mutual exchange where both parties agree on the value of the money. Historically money arises naturally in different forms in different societies (gold, salt, gigantic stones), it is not an invention of government
11. 'Hard money' has certain qualities such as durability, scarcity, divisibility, and fungibility (my ounce of gold is equivalent to/interchangable with your ounce of gold).
12. 'Fiat money' (fiat means 'let it be so'), which is the global monetary system of virtually every country today, does not have these qualities and can therefore be manipulated through printing/inflation, allowing whoever has the newly printed money to buy goods at the original market price, and increasing the price of goods for everyone else. This is immoral and why many people (rightly) push for 'hard money' alternatives, like precious metals.

But sterling stuff is based

I have all of my pickups an acid test today and they all passed, I guess sterling being rarely faked is true. If I had the same make/model of a utensil I didn't test all of them but I see no reason why one random one would be real.

The only thing I can think of that would get me is maybe a thick silver plate but when it has manufacturer's marks + sterling on it you really gotta ask how likely that is.

it's probably real. But if you're really concerned you just re-slab it for $28 or whatever it costs. The only risk is the grade might change when you re-submit. People that deal in slabs usually buy a subscription for unlimited grading and then re-submit a coin over and over again until they get the highest possible grade. So high-dollar coins may be graded on the high side and might drop a grade if you re-slab them.

otherwise the slabbing company or any coin dealer should be able to tell if the slab is real just by looking at it.

After investing into physical metals this year I'm starting to get worried about the liquidity of the investment. Alot of analysts see Silver going between 100-1000 per oz and gold going 5000-10000 per oz. But my question is who going to buy at these prices? I doubt my lcs has the money to purchase my 2024oz stack at 500 let alone a 1000. What is the exit strategy? I recall hearing about using the metals as collateral for a loan but I have yet to see a bank offer that in my area.

the fact that you somehow have the resources, intelligence and personal responsibility and success to have acquired and saved this amount of PMs should be patent evidence that you have enough knowledge and imagination to work out how and where it is possible to sell these PMS.
I would first look to local places like an LCS. Yes they could be flooded with sellers in a huge sell-off event so that is going to be timing and planning and having pre-established relationship ideally.
or you could try somehow selling to local private buyers but that could be a security concern depending on your opsec.
you can sell to online dealers but of course they may barley pay spot or maybe even less idk.

or you could barter for things of value locally like real estate or rare classic cars idk

one comment I read like "wealthy people don't create 'taxable events' "
sort of triggered my brain to think about things differently and recognize the fact that there's a whole bunch of stuff going on that I have no clue about and could benefit from learning more obviously

for my pm stacking I been in a holding pattern to stack cash for future real estate purchase. I stacked monthly for the first half of the year. haven't bought any PMS in couple months now.

One thing to also keep in mind is that some private mints will buy back their own silver at spot if you sell enough.
For example, I'm stacking primarily with Scottsdale because I spoke with them and they currently will buy back their own silver at 100% of the current spot price if I sell 100oz or more. Obviously, this rate could change if silver ever got as high as you're thinking, but it's a safe option and one that gives me peace of mind.

Reading threads like this is a good start. Lots of us use Provident Metals - they don't have a super wide selection, but they are reliable. Personally, I'm buying a lot of my stack from Scottsdale, a private mint.
You'll want to decide if you want bars or rounds - most of us get both. If you get rounds, you'll want to decide if you want privately made rounds (like Asahi, for example) or more government-backed rounds (Canadian Maples, American Silver Eagles, etc.). Most of us get both.
Try to buy in larger quantities, if you can afford it; premiums (the extra they charge on top of the current price of silver) are usually lower if you buy more at once.

Is the numismatic/collector value of government-issued coins expected to be higher than their melt value over time? What kind of aftermarket is there for coin collectors? I don't know anything about that side of things, so I've never really understood why you would want to pay more than the bare minimum over spot as an investor.

Well we were talking about NAK yesterday and their pebble mine operation (and how it'd be a shame to destroy the salmon habitat and just overall beauty). And the gold that's there.

>> No.23886542

That's why I'm asking. I would rather have a pile of junk silver than an equal quantity of pretty coins that I paid 20% more for. But I don't know what the collector's market is like. Maybe there are people who really want a 2010 American Silver Eagle.

>> No.23886620

>>23886542
I think there's a difference between 90% and fine silver in liquidity and perhaps value, but between fine and collector's? The difference there is the pattern, and to anticipate favourable collector's markets is essentially to predict fashion. It can probably be done with a degree of accuracy, but nothing like the certainty we are used to with metals.

>> No.23886632

>>23886208

Some government-issued coins are worth more over time, but as >>23886470 said it's nothing we can rely on.
If you're accumulating silver for a SHTF scenario to barter with, having easily recognizable coins are a benefit - government-backed ones fill this role. Likewise, private sellers are usually more interested in buying government-backed coins closer to spot price.
However, you just need to think what your exit strategy is. Do you just want to hold for decades and never sell until you pass it on to your grandchildren? If so, it likely doesn't matter what type of coin/round you have. Are you wanting to sell privately? Government-backed coins are likely better. Are you wanting to sell to a refinery? It probably doesn't matter, then.

Vinland Saga. More of a war theme than anything else but the story the characters are just fantastic. Has a single season adapted into an anime which was good too, though I prefer the manga.

I invest in mining companies primarily. However I actually do a lot of homework unlike most people here. Unfortunately the lazy get slaughtered in the stock market. It is what it is, if you're not willing to put in the work buy physical or the etfs. If you're willing to work you'll make outsized gains.

This is true. Made my own fair share of bad investments but thankfully I only invest small amounts at a time. You leaen best from mistakes and those either motivate people to quit or to adapt. Also worth noting is thta mining companies of course follow the underlying commodity and have pumped up a lot this year so they're bound to go down a bit

Spice & Wolf too! I actually learned more about commerce by watching that than on my economics course in high school (even got a better grade than some of the more motivated students lol)

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in getting started with economics.

One kind anon shared a thread recommending it a few weeks back and I only just got around to reading it. Blew my mind. It was written in 1936 but it reads like it was written yesterday.

A world in debt - Freeman Tilden

I downloaded it as a free PDF somewhere

Thank you for the recommendation anon. I'm more of a book guy than pdf guy so I might buy it physically if it's available somewhere (have to first do some background checking on that and finish the current book first)

Where my FSM bros at? Looks like Fortuna hit their earnings big. I can’t find the earnings report which they supposedly released today, but according to this dude’s chart on Twitter, nearly $50 million in free cash flow this quarter, their best ever.

I much prefer a physical book myself but simply cant bear the expense of purchasing every book I read. I would be broke if that was the case. Instead I treat myself to a physical copy of just my favourite books. The problem is I intend on moving to distant lands in the future which will make transferring my goods a burden. For this reason I dont like to accumulate many physical possessions, therefore I can live simply and travel freely. I plan on having a homestead with a cozy library, containing a fireplace off course. I will fill this library with my favourite works, where my sons will be able to access this well of wisdom. Gods be good they will grow to be strong, wise men who was proud of their father who only lived to give them more than he had.

Gold and silver, shine they bright
but black are they, to thy blood's light
Minds illumined, wisdom to keep
'Till they return to their eternal sleep
Where they rest, those men of men
In that place, which we ne'er can ken.

I did read S&W a few years ago and it sucked to see that the limited edition novel sold out before I even knew it was a thing but it do be like that. Now I'm gonna have to find one of the mythical copies at an estate sale

cmon fellas, you can get virtually every book in existence for $5-10 from thriftbooks, betterworldbooks, abebooks or biblio, if you're in the USA they usually have free shipping, and if you're international it's usually an extra $5. Brand new hardcovers might cost $25, sure, but just wait a year and it'll be $10. I wish I could show you my bookshelf but I'm moving house and everything's in boxes

do it mate, secondhand books have that comfy worn-in feeling that new books don't. Most sites will let you pick what condition the books are in too, so you can pick up a like-new version for $10 or a pretty worn out one for $4. I've spent the last decade researching where to get books the cheapest so any questions just let me know.
