I turned in the last couple months a trading account from 1k to 6kish. Today, a few bad trades and I lost 80% of it.

For some of you who have gone through this, how do you cope? feeling pretty shit right now ngl.

with this whole pandemic bullshit I turned from having a small invested portfolio to actively trading, felt like I was good at it. Crazy how one single day can wipe out everything so fucking fast.

big difference between trading and gambling, losing 80% in a day is gambling my friend.

2% should be a traders max loss per trade.

You don't. I'm sorry anon. You could try riding some p&d's, although it's easy to lose everything if you're not quick enough.

My rebuild was selecting a coin i felt would outperform ethereum but not so risky as to buy say a luigicoin so to speak. Think about it friend, if before you were building an eth stack you could still get the same stack by unironically not investing in eth and taking a higher risk to convert it to more eth later. Obviously this could backfire but i think for the next year youre golden to do so. Link, kleros, ren, farm, yfi

Yup, that was the dumb me rising the stakes trying to recoup some losses, and some of today volatility triggering my stops before going in my desired direction.

Traded BTC, ETH and LINK. Made most of it when UNI futures got listed though. After the top to 8 and the slow decline it was childs play to short every little 'pump' and make bank due to the volatility being 10-15 cents per 5 minute interval.

ive been in your situation anon, +10k within a month then lost around 40% in less than 12h because i bought the wrong leveraged bull tokens
shit happens dude, you still have money, pick it up and start managing risk, researching coins, whatever you did to get where you were
don't panic or start to put emotions into it, if you didn't learn anything from this loss, the remainder of what you have might as well be gone too

i use the opportunity to take a hard look at my own character flaws. it takes more than bad luck to lose 80% in a day. that money is a sacrifice that will remind you to not make that same mistake again. so, can you figure out what you did wrong, and why in god’s name it seemed like a good idea at the time?

>> No.23788876

>>23788055
i see you were trading margin. this simply isnt necessary because YOU ARE STILL EARLY in crypto. bitcoin will go to at least $50-60k in the next year or two, and probably $1m within 10 years. Even if some disaster strikes like the Chinese hitting BTC wih a 51% attack, if you are diversified into other top 10 coins like ETH, LINK, ADA, and DOT you will be fine.

If you want to make it earlier and gamble a bit you can buy call options on BTC. Ledgerx if you’re a burger. Just keep betting a small percentage of your stack every few months and If bitcoin goes to $50-60k, you can 100x what you bet. So for instance, you can bet $1k on calls, and wagecuck at the same time so in two months if the calls expire and you lose that $1k, you can put in another $1k and try again. (hold BTC with the rest of your money). when the bullrun finally happens, that $1k becomes $100k. you can then put half into BTC, ETH, etc, and half into USDC in case the market crashes. after the bullrun is over and btc is back down, you can buy in again and forget about it for a few years.

Options are superior to margin because you can’t get liquidated if the asset drops all of a sudden.

I did the same and made like 30% profit....not 600%. I don't see how it's possible with the impermanent loss plus the rewards you haven't harvested yet dropping in price.

Fren, I have had MANY 6-figure downswings. Trust me, I know your pain (and much more).
Here's what I usually do
> COMPLETELY stop trading, looking at graphs, markets, /biz/, financial news etc. (this is very important)
> Go for a long walk, maybe listen to some music or a podcast
> When I get home I order a ton of delicious food (for once not giving a fuck how unhealthy it is) and watch comedy, play vidya or something else that will help me get my mind off of losses
> next morning I usually feel 20%-50% less JUSTed
> I stay away from everything related to finance until my mind has cleared up and I have accepted my loss (this means that you aren't desperate to get your money back). Again, this is very important.
> while I wait for things to get better I play vidya, watch movies, spend time with family/ friends, buy some things I want, eat good healthy food, exercise etc. Basically, I do anything that will make feel me good in the short run as long as it isn't related to finance
After 1-2 weeks I usually feel good again and have accepted my losses.
Hope it helps.

Whatever you do, DON'T try to chase your losses. Take some time away from trading/ finance and do things that make you feel good/ happy (even if they're superficial).

Oh, and if that $6k was (almost) all the money you had then you were most likely taking WAY too much risk. If you don't use proper risk management then trading/ investing is just gambling.

You're no different that some degenerate gambler who turned $1K into $6K at his local casino... and lost it all back. No offense, but it's the truth. Learn from your mistakes and try to move on.
In the grand scheme of things, $5k is not that much money (but I know it feels like a big deal right now).
