I'm not a financial advisor nor am I an active trader. I'm more tuned into macro. But I think we have a big spike in the dollar coming and a big spike in long dated treasuries. I think Steven van Metre's thesis in the short term is spot on. Although yields have risen a bit here recently, I think eventually they will tank. We have a record level of shorts in bond market and that usually indicates that a lot of people are about to get taken to the cleaners. There are strong downward forces on yields, and it wouldn't take much to trigger the mother of all short squeezes. So I have some calls on UUP (dollar bull) and TLT (long dated treasuries). I have only minor options, while I'm sitting long unleveraged in TLT. I'm also half in cash. Mine is a very limited short term macro play, as I am on pmg and am convinced long term that dollar is in trouble. There are other people swing trading and making a killing every day, but I don't have the time or the patience and probably not the smarts to do that. So I make boring macro plays. I'm also hedged with about $16k in physical.

Bonds are really in a "greater fool" kind of situation where people buy them with the plan to flip them for a profit in the aftermarket because bonds don't provide positive returns anymore as the yields fall behind the inflation rate

They definitely are. There's no way I am hanging onto these long term, but there are lots of larger institutions that have requirements on holdings. Treasuries are still top tier asset/collateral class. Not forever, but definitely for the short term.

AUN will probably begin climbing when development begins nearing its end, and it will stay high if production goals are met. The funding they got has bad terms too so it's very important that they're able to ramp up the production on schedule and start getting returns. Thanks but unlikely, I'm good at hunting and hoarding cheap silver and "sleeper" (unrecognized by everyone but me) ancient artifacts, numismatics and all types of antiques but am a self employed dropout so don't have the stable income that most here probably enjoy. That resiliency will probably be helpful going forward but I'm pretty jelly of the well-paid Goldchads and savvy market traders, ngl. Mostly eBay and directly from the metal detectorists themselves working ground all over Europe. Can't find it myself here in Burgerstan but the depths of the internet is fertile enough soil for me. If you're looking for anything ancient in particular I can point you in the right direction, it's a minefield out there.

If anyone wants me to evaluate any arcane ancient stuff I'd be happy to help you avoid fakes and find excellent good-price dealers, but that's probably even less useful than the scrapping tips which objectively aren't as useful or profitable as the education in the markets generally or in the mining sector in particular that I get here.

Re pensions:

Get them the fuck out of anything that isnt in your control and start the paper work right fucking now.

Best case if you leave it, you will lose most of it to inflation, probably and worst case its all gone.

Get that shit into stocks or collateralize loans or something that will earn interest beyond 5-10% you need to break even at least.

That is probably very good advice. My question was from a policy perspective. I think I should have meant the unfunded liabilities of the state, especially with regard to public pensions and Medicare. I'm personally highly levered into PM and leveraged against my retirement accounts. I should have probably taken a bigger 401(k) loan. My tinfoil triggered and I didn't want to be tagged for covid nor covid relief so I took a "loan" which might end up being tax hell, but we'll see how it goes. If it gets that bad, I'll work on working outside of the US again or go full atlas shigged and shoot for self sufficiency out in the heartland.

Absolutely! Ancient spearheads are an autistic subspecialty of mine.

Here is a near eastern bronze age point being sold by one of my favorite UK dealers Derek Glover (del550), likely a javelin tip 3,500+ years old. He has reasonably low starting bids and while his titles and descriptions suck ass and are often incorrect (that's how you find rare valuable stuff cheap) he has always carried only genuine coins and artifacts. Most UK based eBay dealers are sketchy or outright fake-sellers but you'll do fine with him. Check his other listings too.

La Pierre is the best weighted stuff, Gorham is usually quite good thick gauge quality too. Usually weighted cups/sugars/creamers or shakers that are only weighted in the bottom yield pretty well, in the 40%-60% range but be conservative so you don't get burned. Also some candelabras are quite good but it's hard to explain or give advice without pictures because others suck ass.

Depends on how unstable the rust is, that big Ukrainian lance spearhead would fall apart after several years without stabilization but those Russian ones look much more stable and would probably be fine just sitting on a shelf. I have tons of artifacts and would be much happier knowing a history lover and fellow spearsmanship autist started their collection with great genuine ancient pieces at a great price. If you won't bite lmk and I'll keep an eye on them, but I've been obsessed with buying junior miners lately and really don't need any more I've got boxes and boxes full lol.

Hard to say without pictures (nudge nudge) but it sounds like your bronze spearhead is suffering from "Bronze Disease", a destructive slow chain reaction caused by the presence of chlorides. Best easy treatment is soaking in distilled water and changing out for fresh distilled water periodically over the course of a month or 2. Most bronze is pretty solid and is fine sitting on a shelf.

Must've just been some green stained desert dust, that looks solid and authentic with no disease, at least on that side. I'm not expert in Near Eastern pieces like that but they are nice and usually older than European bronze age items.
And yes, that flat with the barbed Scythian throwing spear is a good deal, you'd be able to turn a profit pretty easy if you ever had to sell which is an important criterion for me personally. That single spearhead $1 auction format piece is nice too, I generally consider ribbed ones like that to be solidly ancient Iron Age, kind of an aesthetic holdover from cast bronze points that NEEDED the strengthening rib but again there was lots of overlap through the millennia. Please feel free to pick up the good deals man, it'll be a savvy buy and manly spearheads once soaked in the blood of enemies are awesome things to hold and "absorb". Kinda like little time machines that draw your mind way back in time, it's breddy cool.

That is a genuine ancient spearhead however the decorative grooves have been heavily retouched and cut deeper and expanded wider than it probably ever was originally. Cool looking but too heavily "cleaned"/modified to be a good collector piece in my opinion. Price is still cheap but I prefer unmolested (or only gently cleaned) pieces. The pieces from Russia are better. Recognition / collector value if you're looking to trade private market. If you're selling to a bulk dealer then it generally doesn't matter.

Depends on the price. Bulk sellers will often pay melt-value + premium for gold/silver regardless of purity, so if you're prepared to the math to determine whether or not it is good value then it could be for you. It also depends on what you believe the market will look like at the time you need/want to sell.

Personally I only intend to sell physical if shit really hits the fan, in which case being recognizable, pure, and anti-counterfeit are my primary interests. This means I basically just buy common 1oz coins that have anti-counterfeit features.

Of course you can, you can buy spears, crossbows, swords, but just not ones that have decayed in the ground to long, they are far too dangerous then apparently! You only need a license for guns really, but I wouldn't bother because there's a clause that gives police the right to check your property at ANY TIME to check you're keeping your guns safely. You can have personal protection or privacy, both are impossible in the UK. Though I do think I could manage a Chrstchurch only with I've to hand....

I've seen it before, I wouldn't think the hydraulic coin press pressure is enough to squeeze out metal like that but maybe if they've got it cranked up. My guess is that the planchet wasn't seated flat and received a wonky strike that pinched some metal between the side of the die and collar as the die was coming down.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, aren't the rounds heavier than the declared weight because they're not perfectly 100% silver? So the extra weight comes from the tiny amount of accounted impurities, meaning that a round that weighs more than 1oz still has 1oz of pure silver and no less?
