People hold altcoins because they have more space for small money to become big money, BTC and ETH make more sense if you already have lots of money and want to buy BTC when it's only like 4000 dollars after a massive dumpening because it's a sure bet it'll go back up.

Stuff like Link aren't 100% sure bets, but they're cheap enough and legit enough that the bet might pay out and pay itself back.
