I'm new at this and people use different strategies. I like using a conservative strategy where I sell at 30-40 days out because that's where theta decay accelerates, in other words the speculative value (the thing some degenerate paid you premium for) gets crushed the fastest in the last 30 days. And obviously I like a strike price that would let me sell at a profit, but if I have collected a lot of rounds of premium already I don't mind a lower strike if my overall gains on the ticker are high enough.

You'll get more premium for closer strike prices like $10 instead of $15 but less upside if it gets assigned.

I might let the call expire but I might also buy it back, called Buying to Close, at 50% gains. Let's say you sell the call on a green day when everyone is optimistic and call prices are inflated, then later there's a red day and everyone is panic selling, you can probably buy the call back for way less than you sold it for. This is basically "sell high, buy low." It lets you lock in your profit and sell a new covered call on the next green day. On the other hand, if it expires worthless you sold high and never had to buy anything.

I made enough on premium already to bring my basis under $10 - I mean from a personal profit tracking perspective, not taxes, that shit is complicated. So I wouldn't mind getting assigned.
"The Wheel" is where you switch to selling puts if you get assigned. Selling puts involves slightly different risks so I would have to check the premium and run some worst case calculations - how screwed am I if I sell a $7.50 put and the stock drops to $3 for example. If that happens, if you get assigned at $7.50 but the stock is only worth $3, you won't get nearly as much premium turning around and selling $10 calls. You might have to settle for a lower strike price.
