I plan on buying gold and/or silver for saving up money during the next 5-10 years.

I went on goldprice.org and noticed that if I had bought these metals back on 2012, I would have not gained nothing, or even lost money if I would want to use them today. I noticed this behaviour with currencies like GBP and CHF. (The same happened with CAD and AUD, but only with silver in these cases).

Why did price decrease so much after mid-2011? Did it have an abnormal increase before that? If so, why?

I am from Argentina (South American country with lots of inlfation and restrictions to buy foreign currencies like USD). Gold and Silver price charts for my local currency seem very "bullish", but I guess that's because of inflation. I want to save up money to buy a house, hopefully, in the next 5-10 years.

Your help is much appreciated, since I am very ignorant on this subject, and couldn´t find so much info online.

Generally speaking, gold and silver are good investment. They are more of a defensive asset; meaning that it is good to have if inflation is high or if the stock market collapses.

There are better investments that have a better return on investment. Stocks generally are better, but risky. Gold and silver seems like a decent investment.

Historically, gold is better than silver. However, in the past few years, silver has outperformed gold.

Around 2010-2011, gold and silver went up a lot. Eventually, they went back down. I don't know why.

PMs go up when normal economy goes to shitter, especially with inflation mixed in.

When the economy is well within healthy growth, PMs retract.

It's probably going to go up a lot after US elections when people chimp out and the government throws US Dollars (digital trash backed by nothing) from the sky to get everyone to calm down. It will take a hit when the (((vaccine))) comes out but that just makes a good buy opportunity it's easily going to 3000 USD in the next year, I'm buying. Silver will also shoot up some say 40 USD by end of year a lot say 100 within long term. The dollar will lose some value, hopefully not enough to cause societal collapse or chinks taking over the world, but they really don't have a choice but to inflate. Tldr, buy gold and silver you can also learn a lot about crypto from all the autistic people on here.

That second part is wrong. Precious metal does not retract, it just grows at a slower rate.

Thank you for your advice.
I think I will stick to precious metals, since I don´t have access to the stock market (If I had it maybe I would split my investment). On the other hand, inflation in my country does not seem to stop any time soon, so..

>>23345347
Thank you for your advice too. I don´t know a lot about finance and economics, but I don´t really trust crypto, since its value does not seem to be determined by nothing tangible, and it is very unstable. >>23345408

Do you guys have any other advice or long term plan to buy your first home? Wages are really low here even if you are a professional, so it would have to be a long term plan.
Thanks again for your help guys

a literal once in a life time trade set up if you can wait 5 years or so.
Gold could hit 20k and Silver could reach $400 by 2025.
The lockdowns are deflationary and the fed is trying to print us out of a great depression.
We're going to see massive asset bubbles before the economy fully recovers.
Gold and silver are the assets that financial institutions trust to absorb inflation.
That's why they ran out of gold when the lockdown was announced.
I think the biggest short squeeze in history is coming.

I. Theres nothing about that chart that looks appealing to trade
II. Any appeal precious metals may have, comes entirely from macro economic factors, not squiggly lines on a chart.

I made the macroeconomic economic case. The Cup and Handle trade set up is a signal that the price suppression of gold and silver is wearing thin and banks really are using it to cover their ass.

Explain it like you were talking with an 8 year old its not my smarts that got me here:
- deflation starts because people dont spend money during corona? Whyd than all hosuing is being bought in my country litreally every piec of gorund is being sold for $$$ high premiums
- what will tip the deflation to inflantion how does it transition from one state to the other?

check out /pmg/

biz has daily generals on PMs; one of the few non-shit threads on this board. I personally have physical gold/silver and my trad market assets are almost exclusively gold/silver miners.

deflation starts when people would rather hold dollars than assets, when the banks tighten credit, when stimulus is gridlocked in the government; all of which we are experiencing. Inflation follows when the government tries to print it's way out of the situation by stimulus for certain econ sectors or just putting money directly into the hands of the spenders (individuals) to move money in the economy/prevent a revolution

every state suspended all evictions and foreclosures during lockdown.
This takes supply off the market, while demand for shelter is at a new high.

Issuing eviction/foreclosure notices would knock over the jenga tower. And we'd measure poverty by homelessness rather than employment.
The fed is already printing money to replace this missing pieces, which is why the tower hasn't spilled over already.
They'll keep printing until the economy has recovered.

What most paleocons don't tell you is the money printer money isn't free money. It's a debt. This means marking up prices to pay off the debt.
