The Chinese took fewer jobs from us than people realize. The reason they 10x'd their industry is because American Boomers and Gen Xers began consooming at a level so absurd that it beggars the imagination. A bunch of the dumb shit that get people saying "NoT MaDe in MuRicA!" is shit that was literally never made in 'Murica because 'Muricans never wanted or needed to buy it before, until advertising told the Boomers to so they could appear wealthy and happy to all their Boomer friends.

That's not true for every industry, but it's true for a bunch. Good example is steel - steel production only fell by about ~20% in the US, and virtually all of those losses happened in a two year period around 1980 due to the Japs taking over our export destinations. The Chinese have done surprisingly little to our steel industry in comparison to the Japanese in the 80's and Arcelor Mittal's consolidation of European steel industry in the early 00's.

The reason a bunch of steel mills closed is because they sucked, and new integrated mills needed a fraction of the workers. full stop.
