>Dr. David Nabarro from the WHO appealed to world leaders yesterday, telling them to stop “using lockdowns as your primary control method” of the coronavirus. He also claimed that the only thing lockdowns achieved was poverty – with no mention of the potential lives saved.

>“Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never ever belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer,” he said. “We in the World Health Organisation do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,” Dr Nabarro told The Spectator. “The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganise, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.”

>Dr Nabarro’s main criticism of lockdowns involved the global impact, explaining how poorer economies that had been indirectly affected. “Just look at what’s happened to the tourism industry in the Caribbean, for example, or in the Pacific because people aren’t taking their holidays,” he said. “Look what’s happened to smallholder farmers all over the world. … Look what’s happening to poverty levels. It seems that we may well have a doubling of world poverty by next year. We may well have at least a doubling of child malnutrition.”

>Melbourne’s lockdown has been hailed as one of the strictest and longest in the world. In Spain’s lockdown in March, people weren’t allowed to leave the house unless it was to walk their pet. In China, authorities welded doors shut to stop people from leaving their homes. The WHO thinks these steps were largely unnecessary. Instead, Dr Nabarro is advocating for a new approach to containing the virus. “And so, we really do appeal to all world leaders: stop using lockdown as your primary control method. Develop better systems for doing it. Work together and learn from each other.”

The WHO didn't flip flop. They just said to stop using lockdowns as the PRIMARY control method. Lockdowns work, but if you have a subhuman population who doesn't even want to wear a mask, locking things down isn't going to do much. You'd just be locking down, lifting lockdowns, and locking down again, etc.

The only "Nord European" country that didn't have a lockdown was Sweden and their deaths per capita is in the top 20 globally. Other Nordic countries have had way fewer deaths.

Deaths per 1 million:
Sweden = 583
Norway = 51
Finland = 62
Denmark = 115
Iceland = 29

As far as Southern Europe is concerned, Sweden only beats Italy and Spain. Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Malta, etc. even the clusterfuck of France all have lower death rates.

I guess your only research is reading MSM headlines since the news was talking about Spain and Italy so much. Don't forget that Spain purposely kept tourists coming in early on in corona, and Italy was the first major outbreak in Europe, both of which ended up causing a lot more cases and deaths.

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality
Only one european country has higher deaths per capita (belgium), but UK, Italy, and Sweden are pretty close. Sweden didn't lockdown, UK is US/Brazil-tier in how they handled it, and Italy was ground 0 in Europe.

But the US confirmed cases blows them all out of the water (which is why the case-fatality ratio is so low). If anything it proves that the disease is not as lethal as was initially though, so the actual spread of it isn't as damaging. But the lockdowns *did* prove the effectiveness at reducing it's spread, which was the whole purpose of them.

Really it comes down to how serious you take the lethality of the virus. In my opinion it isn't lethal at all, so needing to deter the spread of it isn't that big of an issue. But if you think it *can* be lethal, then stopping the spread via lockdown is pretty proven.

>Cuomo said surprisingly, those getting hospitalized now for virus infection had been staying home most of the time.

>“Overwhelmingly, the people were at home where there's been a lot of speculation about this a lot of people again had opinions. A lot of people have been arguing where they come from and where we should be focusing, but if you notice, 18 percent of the people came from nursing homes. Less than 1 per cent came from jail or prison, 2 per cent came from the homeless population, 2 per cent from other congregant facilities. But 66 per cent of the people were at home. Which is shocking to us,” he said. The data also looked at whether use of public transport is leading to an increase in infection rates but the results pointed out that transportation was not adding to the infection rates.

>“Transportation method, we thought maybe they were taking public transportation and we've taken special precautions on public transportation, but actually no, because these people were literally at home,” Cuomo said adding that nine per cent of the new cases were driving their own vehicle and only four per cent were taking public transportation.

>He said using transportation data, it was found that 84 per cent of the newly infected cased were people who had been staying at home.

>'Literally. Were they working? No. They were retired or they were unemployed. Only 17 per cent working. That says they're not working, they're not travelling, they're predominantly downstate, predominantly minority, predominantly older, predominantly non-essential employees and that's important.

Cope harder faggot. Coronavirus has. 99.6% survival rate among normal healthy individuals. Less than 20k people have actually died. That 200k statistic is grossly inflated and counted basically everyone who died within 30 days of testing positive for covid, regardless of acutal cause of death, as a "covid death" no one is dying, I dont know a SINGLE person who has even been hospitalized and i have a huge family spread out across the country.

In February even I was saying we should be closing schools temporarily and shit until we get a grasp on what's going on.

Then time passed and it was a nothingburger. But everything was still closed. And then everything was still closed. And then everything was still closed. And now masks are so essential that they're mandatory. Then the vaccine will be mandatory.

The entire point of lockdowns was to flatten the curve and keep hospitals from being overwhelmed. As long as everyone wears masks and follows proper social distancing, there's no reason to have more lockdowns unless the hospitals start getting overrun again.

I don't know why everyone seems to have collectively forgotten the stated purpose of the lockdowns, but now we have one side acting like they're entirely useless and detrimental and the other side acting like they're the magic bullet and should be used no matter what. They're merely a tool, and -- let's not forget -- one that countries wouldn't have had to use if they had actually restricted international travel the moment it was clear tons of people were dying in China.
