Both Albany and Syracuse are in the top 10 most dangerous cities in the state. New York is a shit state with third world tier cities. In my opinion the best part of the state is the Hudson Valley as long as you live in a white town outside of the cities.

Rochester fag reporting in. Waiting for the day I make it so I can move out of upstate forever. I have friends in both buffalo and Syracuse.
Syracuse is a shit hole. Feels like the ghetto everywhere even in the city. The air and the energy of the entire city is just a feeling of lazy and ghetto.
Buffalo is better than Cuse for sure. But not by much. It just has more to do there and the vibes aren't as fucked.
Albany is a shit hole.
Give me a choice out of Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse and Albany. I would choose Buffalo and rope myself there for having to make such a bad choice.

It is overcast 9 months of the year it feels like. It is truly a gloomy, shitty place to live. The people here are all bitter, not friendly and have cold hearts. There is nothing to do. Hipsters and dooshbags are everywhere. Rich people, Jews, poors, the culture here is to be greasy and be a degenerate or a faggy rich person.

One of my good friends killed himself on heroin 2 years ago. Made me never want to hang out with druggies again.

When you live in Rochester you have 2 choices. Either so drugs and drink or move.

>> No.23203218

I left Buffalo 3 years ago for Texas. Way more based here and conservative. Inb4 Muh Mexicans. Yes, Mexican culture is everywhere and the inner cities are obviously blue. But outside of the inner cities almost everyone is conservative whites and Mexicans.

Also, the entire attitude is generally less metropolitan. Even the liberals here are less annoying. Buffalo SJWs are relentlessly obnoxious. There’s also SO MUCH MORE TO DO. Like I never get bored here, tons of nature, guns, restaurants, and these Mexicans are constantly throwing festivals and shit.

It's like Buffalo is a combination of the worst ghetto people and the worst SJWs. Then you throw in the hipster culture and the HUGE greasy punk scene... the cherry on top is the yuppies. How can such an annoying, abrasive and unattractive city exist?
I think at least Rochester has a decent city layout and is surrounded by nature and the lakes. Buffalo has NOTHING except some stuff to do.
Why does anybody live there or continue to live there?

Alright anon let me help you out.
Every place I marked with a red X is not somewhere you want to move. The places I marked with yellow are places which would potentially be alright to move, but with stipulations behind them.

Funnily enough I just moved from Brighton.
I will give you the run down
>The most jewish place literally in the entire area
>High taxes, but centrally located
>No country but are a lot of conviences near by
>Ritsy people who are stuck up
>Nothing really to do unless you have kids and want to take them to the park or some shit
Seriously dude if you are a country guy and you like nature don't move here. You are wedged between nothing but noise, yuppies, liberals etc. This place was nice to live in for the sheer amount of convience but that is about it.
Seriously, if you are from the country you will hate this place. The only benefit that I can think of is the largest YMCA in the US is in Brighton now and it is really nice. If you have kids and want them to go to Brighton schools, expect them to go to a school with snobby preppy kids who laugh at you for not wearing abercrombie and finch ( this is what my friend who went there has told me and it seems accurate).

Next is Penfield. Again an alright place to live, IF you can find a house in the country. The problem is the housing is shit and also is almost non-existant. Plus honestly is somewhere I would not want to live.

Mendon. Actually nice as fuck. In the country. Think a lot of horse farms and shit like that. The only thing is it is expensive as fuck and the taxes are high as fuck. Plus a lot of rich people live there soooo yeah.

Rush I could maybe recommend moving too. But beware of the things in the woods. Not much goes on there and I don't believe the taxes are crazy high.

Honeyoye Falls is nice and the school is nice. But it is filled with yuppies and rich doosh bags.

Ok so here is why Rochester is a shit place to live.

>It is a sharp contrast between almost like 6 types of demographics
>1.Greasy, cold hearted, close minded and brainwashed weirdos who are mean or fucked up in some way ( seriously for some reason this area turns everyone into the most bitter, down trodden and cynical people ever). It is common to be a cynnical asshole in the area and that is kind of the culture. Being a greasy person who drinks or smokes everyday is COOL here. To survive the 9 months of GREY and cold you need to be either fucked up drunk or on drugs, or be part of a religion like a Mormon to tolerate it.
2. Rich doosh bags, liberals and cuckolds. People who act snooby, are surface level material and who are just so out of touch with reality
3. Poor people, ghetto people, minorities, homeless people and dumb people
4. Country bumpkins who are close minded and don't really know much outside of Rochester and their small town (think trump people or just your average small towner)
5. Insane amounts of college students from out of state that don't know shit and think they are smarter/cooler than they are
6. People that are extremely egotistical and think they are smarter and better than most people

The general idea you should get from Rochester is cold, unfriendly, unwelcoming, close minded, egotistical and gloomy. It is a cursed city where even the most successful people and places fall. Kodak got started here and he killed himself here. The black lives matter shit is being pushed heavily by the elites here as a hot city for the media to pick apart.

If you really want to move in the area, look into Livingston County, which is pretty much all country and south to Monroe county. Or something like wayne county. Basically you want to pick somewhere out in the country at least 30 minutes from downtown Rochester.

>> No.23206867

>>23206507
I'm from the city and went to college upstate at Bing, both are shitholes in their own ways but I think upstate is worse because of the soul-crushing economic depression and lack of opportunities. I've seen poverty in the Southern Tier that was far worse than anything I've seen in NYC ghettos... people stuck working at Walmart for their entire lives, chugging mellow yellow and chainsmoking Indian reservation cigarettes; raising severely autistic kids that are probably fucked up because IBM polluted the water supply. I think the Hudson Valley is a good balance because you're still relatively close to the city but still far enough removed to get some goddam peace and quiet. Putnam County looks based, that's where I'm looking to move after I make it. I have too many ties to New York City to leave the state altogether but if I wasn't from here and have all the support networks I do I would not move here.

>> No.23206896

The thing you have to realize about Rochester is that it has a CURSED energy here. Buisnesses come here to die. Musicians can never break out of being local area musicians no matter how much they try. Downtown used to be thriving but failed. They tried to make a ferry from Rochester to Canada and that failed. The mayor is a criminal who runs guns and just got put in jail for election fraud.
But they didn't jail her when she got caught with illegal guns. Kodak lived and died here. There used to be a beautiful downtown with a mall and great things. But now it is just a reminder of "what once was".

Look up:
>Rochester fast ferry
>Mayor Lovely Warren
>Rochester Black Lives Matter Riots

Anyone who lives here for life either has something seriously fucked up with them that they accept this fate, or they move far away to greener pastures.

This place is cursed. The fact that you would consider moving here is a BIG red flag you should reconsider what you are doing with your life.
Anyways don't you see what way the world is going? You want to be as FARRRRR away from the cities as possible. It will only get worse and places like Brighton will be the most cucked places you can live in the US.

Do yourself and your wife a favor. Show her these messages and tell her that by moving to Brighton or anywhere within a certain radius around the city of Rochester, you are sealing your fate to a cursed life of shit.

Me and all my friends, family and everyone I pretty much know (except for all the cucked people) desperately want to get out but they are cursed and trapped.

It is a curse to be here. If you want help I can point out places in the area that are decent to habitate in. Nice country places that offer something more than the curse bullshit of Monroe County.

Maybe if you didn't have such a crippling misanthropic hatred for every minority/people that are different from you you guys would be able to make some friends and wouldn't be as miserable.

That said I fucking hate upstate NY. It really is illuminating how often these threads get made and they never fail to illustrate the kafkaesque existence of people living in this region that are self-aware to realize how bad it is. I used to escape this place every summer and theres something in the air or something that makes this place uniquely miserable. But I dont know, like >>23207543 said I've lived/worked all over the country and I get the same vibe from most of the east coast/midwest/ and south. Maybe theres something claustrophobic about the flat, homogenous endless green that transforms into dead sticks 8 months out of the year. But everytime I get out west, I just feel so much better.

I was supposed to finally get out of this place for good this year, had a great job lined up, and then fucking covid hit. I dont know if I can take another winter here, I might just drive down to florida/texas and take any shitty job I can get.

I'm planning on going to Utah soon. But be careful, go too far west and you'll end up in California.

Dude I don't think you know anything. But yeah watching the endless green transform into dead sticks for 8 months is soul crushing.

Best of luck on leaving. Idk why so many threads of Upstate end up on /biz/ but it is bizarre.

I spent some time in Utah. Its a beautiful state. Hit every national park and they're all just as amazing as advertised.

That said the Mormons run that state, and its not a good thing. They fuck with everyones alcohol and pass other retarded religious shit that basically treat non-mormons as second class citizens.

Most of the people I met in Utah seem to fall into one of three categories:

1. Mormon. Dont get me wrong theres plenty of nice mormon people. But that doesn't change the fact that when they run the community you're not invited. I've even met several mormons from other states that said Utah mormons are treated as living in a bubble and especially overzealous. At the end of the day Mormonism is a cult, just like any religious group that starts to form a poisonous little theocracy(Scientologists, Hasidic/orthodox Jews, hardcore Christians)
2. Ex Mormons: dont worry, they'll tell you their ex-mormon very quickly upon meeting them. Boy do they have a bitter hatred for the mormon church and if a word of what they say is true it seems justified(yes it is true you can look up plenty of the egregious claims and confirm).
3. Rock climbers/hippies/desert rats: Usually very cool, great people that are friendly and easy to get along with because you and them will probably be the only ones that dont fall into the aforementioned categories.

At this point I'm pretty much choosing between Arizona and Texas. The only thing holding me back from Arizona is I don't want to be that far from the ocean. But I'll probably go with Arizona anyways because Texas has too much dumb christian baggage(liquor laws, sign pledge to israel for hurricane relief, etc)
