just trim your profits, e.g. the extreme way is if you get +100% just sell 50% to completely cover your cost basis.
Realistically you'd probably sell like 20% or something if it's just shares since it's not like shares ever have 100% potential downside like options and you won't lose your cost basis even if it does dip down hard
