It's already like this for most millennials, especially after the covid layoffs. It's at the point where they get excited about having a $40,000 salary with benefits because that's what most jobs will offer you, and it's very hard to save up to buy a house on an income like that unless you go hard with it like oatmeal anon with his linkies. Only lawyers, doctors, and engineers can afford housing nowadays, but not everyone is smart enough to be successful in those fields so you already end up with a de facto caste system based on jobs. Beyond that there's also factors like the education system not preparing people to be financially literate enough to manage their limited budgets to save up for a down payment for a house
