I've had numerous seasonal jobs in my field throughout college.
Now that I'm looking for an actual long term job with both an associates in applied science, and a Bachelor's in science,

In my field(forestry) the general tiers of work are more skill/education related.

Guys at the start of the pandemic I lost my job and made the most of it, got fit and healthy, cleaned up my life, sold off anything I didn't need and had a plan. This lasted 3 months, started getting bored. As I got rejected for every single job even though I'm far from retarded I started getting demotivated fast. Job's paying 40k yr in Australia is not enough to cover rent and food let alone in Sydney yet most of these jobs require years of prior experience. They know people are desperate for work so they offer peanuts.
In this time rents aren't dropping, used car prices are through the roof and everybody seems to be developing mental issues.

Please guys can someone give me some advice. I'm not sure how to pull myself out of this mental state. I don't have the motivation to put in the effort so I can just barely afford to live a basic life just scraping by. What industry can I enter with zero cash or experience that won't make me want to jump in front of the next express train?

If you're a chronic loser with no work history by the time you're in your late 20s, look into DAC when your parents start collecting social security. I’m going to a t30 (think UVA) school for CS for free but I still feel inferior when reading stories of people that attended big brand name universities. I keep applying for "specialist" IT roles (network/systems admin tier) and I'm lucky if I even hear back. I've gotten a handful of interviews but a lot of the time the jobs will just stay up for months even after I get a rejection. just turned 26, was grateful and lucky enough to get a faang internship in college and have been there for a few years now. i got insanely lucky though. if anyone here is in college i highly HIGHLY recommend both CS as a major and doing an internship as often as possible in the summers. Grind if you have to. When you get to industry you will grow a lot but you need the door to be open first and internships are the easiest way. The good ones pay pretty well too. I'm not saying to do garbage internships or basically any unpaid ones, go to at least established start-ups or start-ups that IPO'd, but get good experience early and you have a headstart on your career at one of these places because of how much freedom you have in them as engineers.

this will vary heavily between FAANG companies (and others in their 'tier' or whatever). in my company it's really chill in terms of relationships with management and my team and cross functional teams and stuff but a lot of the stress comes from yourself, the work being hard (which will heavily depend on your team and experience) and from deadlines. beyond that people are super chill in terms of the normal 'work' environment. i can basically skip any meeting if i feel it doesn't really involve me and am able to work whenever, don't log hours, and am not micromanaged. my manager has always felt like an advocate for me. sick time is unlimited and people are more than okay with you taking it for any reason. i feel a bit more micromanaged now since covid but only in the sense we now have daily standup meetings to share updates so it's still not bad at all. when covid wasn't a thing the company made an effort for teams to bond and for fun events to happen so there was always something fun happening at the office and of course there was always bomb ass free meals

what are you majoring in? do you like to code? are you a sophomore or lower? if so read what i mentioned about majoring in CS and finding internships. to get them you need to figure out when they go live (this is dependent on companies but I applied to mine in the summer, before the fall semester started for most. I think this helped my app go to the top, and always remember that companies have caps for internships. would you rather be trying to get a spot when there are 1000 still or when there are 10?)

beyond that i recommend attending any career fairs, meetups, etc for these high level companies at your college. if your college is too small for these then maybe see if they have events (now these are mostly virtual but usually they aren't). lastly, when you do apply, keep in mind a lot of people get auto-rejected. you need to stand out somehow, either good grades, other internships, awesome side projects, etc. if you get autorejected just try again next year and grind on your studies. if you make the interview you need to study your balls off, coding interviews are absolute bullshit but are a necessity for companies which sucks since it barely represents what you'll be doing anyway

this can all be really hard if you're at a smaller school, so def focus on standing out and improving your skills if you genuinely like coding

so tl;dr apply to an assload of places but still be somewhat picky. you don't want to go somewhere shitty that will just make you feel bad about the field or not teach you anything, you might get more return on yourself if you spent a summer studying instead of taking some shitty ass internship

i do think having a github pages webpage is somewhat helpful, it at least stands out on your resume and who knows what companies are adding as filters for their auto rejection software nowadays. you can literally find a free html/css template online, reference it at the bottom of your page, and build it from that, changing the colors, layout, etc. super simple, basically myspace page programming at that point

as for fields i think this is mostly a meme, but when you're in industry you will sort of start to lean in on what you like and this will inevitably become your 'skill' and what you look for

what kind of work are you looking for? if i was your age and out of work now i'd do a 360 digger course for a couple grand. The starting money is good and there are jobs for those with no experience and qualifications, especially I hear if you use an agency to find work after you qualify

At this point i'll take anyjob that doesn't have dogshit pay, including picking up dogshit. i'll have a look into the digger course, it's not like i have a couple grand lying about but i think some courses allow for grants. For my apprenticeship, best case, i get one at 3M or Blizzard (I have connections in both) or some IT company. Blizzard would mean i have to move to cacafornia :(

I’m honestly not extremely worried in reality. I’m gonna teach him all the cool shit I know and then watch as he one ups me - hopefully. It’ll be tough to figure out how to help him through the ocean of bullshit coming our way but such is life. I think the best thing to do is keep my own spirits up so I can at least inspire him by having fun in the face of an otherwise pretty gay-ass world
