Zoomie anons 18-25 how are you finding the job market? I'm seeing more and more mid-20s zoomillenials jobless, single and living at home with no prospects for the future. How bad is it trying to get a job as a young person now? I'm a 31yo boomer and I feel for the uni meme and got a lame degree which was useless in getting me a job. And it just seems like it's gotten worse in recent years for the young'ns.

Now that I'm looking for an actual long term job with both an associates in applied science, and a Bachelor's in science,
I still don't have a job after numerous interviews that yielded nothing after 5 months.
I currently tutor a boy with Dyslexia and a boy with autism part time which is fun, but it doesn't pay enough to move out of my parents place.

As an oldfag millenial, I can tell you that the boomers and boomerX cohorts are still alive and well, holding on to most of the positions worth having. By the time my generation is able to get these positions, most will be getting phased out or the compensation reduced by 50 percent. Thus, we will never let your generation have a job. You will forever be stuck on GoyBI.

Glad I'm on good terms with my family, because they don't want me to get a job because they're scared of getting the coof so they're letting me be a neet at home as long as I do virtual "work" to not fall out of step with all the skills I've gotten at uni.

Win win for me, doubt it will look bad with employers if I say corona kept me from getting a job, and its not like I got a meme degree so I'm fine with sitting out the job market for another few months. And if you work the shit jobs long enough, employers realize you're the most productive wagie.
Why would they ever let someone so good at wagie work into a more analytical, managerial, or leadership position?
In my field(forestry) the general tiers of work are more skill/education related.
>forest technicians
They basically do basic tasks that involve trudging through the forest, knowing which trees to measure, mark, etc. no decision making involved, and that only requires an associate's level of education.
>forester
Requires knowledge of everything above along with knowing how to time forest harvests, and other management decisions, etc. and that usually requires a Bachelor's level of education
>Forest Manager
Everything above along with a higher level of math and statistical skills, and probably a graduate degree. They make management decisions about 100,000s of acres of forest throughout the world.

I have years of experience with Forest tech work, and have a Bachelor's degree, and can't seem to get a forester job. I've done low wagie jobs too. I have seen how federal agencies are much more ready to hire a Freshman in college because they are a cute Latina girl, rather than just some boring white guy who is just about to graduate.

>Indoctrinate and socially condition an entire generation into going to college, promising then that ANY degree would do because it gives you advantage
>Irresponsibly lack the foresight to realize that if EVERY kid does this then there is no demand for degrees anymore
>Pass laws that make loans available to everyone without the foresight of regulating how much colleges can charge
>Refuse to retire from high paying positions even if you objectively are no longer qualified because you don't even know how to use Microsoft Outlook
>Used the economic boom of your time to hoard real estate as "investments" without the foresight to realize that if every boomer does this your children will have no fucking homes
>Cut corners by outsourcing jobs for short term profits
>Push women into entering the workforce, thereby standardizing the dual income household as an economic base for the middle class
>Result is an entire generation straddled with debt that's unreasonable for anyone to realistically pay off, no fucking jobs worth a damn, no housing, and cost of living that's hard to meet on a single income
>Expect them to act like little lap dogs who will gladly show up 9am - 6 pm every day and do all your work for you because the tech is too difficult for you to understand

Yea, I think it's pretty obvious why millenials just give up and wanna steal from the rich to play Vidya all day. There's a point where it isn't "laziness" and simply realizing that the trade-off for a "proper" life really isn't worth it. Most of us aren't going to bother having kids, so what's the point in living for anyone other than ourselves? And without a family to support, why would you willingly busy your ass and stress yourself at work? Millenials are expected to just live shitty lives with no enjoyment. Boomers have destroyed all the incentives people would have to work, and then they wonder why people don't want to work.

When I step back I realize we are already well beyond "post scarcity" in terms of food, shelter, and medicine. Most of us work meaningless jobs that contribute nothing to humanity. We just dig these rotting caves deep deep down. They don't matter but we busy ourselves making theses caves bigger and maintaining them. They don't matter and we are such an incredibly wasteful species. Women and probably even more wasteful. Yeah, we WANT kids but realistically know that's not possible. Most of my peers have the Fox and Grapes mentality where they are only strongly opposed to kids because it feels impossibly out of their reach. Or at least, not possible comfortably. You want to raise a kid right if you actually care,. And you can't do that if you're having a hard time supporting yourself and are in enough debt that you'll be paying off your student loans still by the time Little Timmy takes his first loan. It's so fucked. We give up because what the hell is there even left to work towards? Somewhere along the lines boomers forgot that you need an achievable goal to make all the stress and sacrifice worth it. If they think "finally being able to pay my loan off at the age of 55, and unable to retire because social security got dried up" is something worth working towards then they're sorely mistaken.

Guys at the start of the pandemic I lost my job and made the most of it, got fit and healthy, cleaned up my life, sold off anything I didn't need and had a plan. This lasted 3 months, started getting bored. As I got rejected for every single job even though I'm far from retarded I started getting demotivated fast. Job's paying 40k yr in Australia is not enough to cover rent and food let alone in Sydney yet most of these jobs require years of prior experience. They know people are desperate for work so they offer peanuts.
In this time rents aren't dropping, used car prices are through the roof and everybody seems to be developing mental issues.

Please guys can someone give me some advice. I'm not sure how to pull myself out of this mental state. You can't do anything like that in first world countries because there's no need for it, and instead of white men moving in to lift up the country, being white is now apparently undesirable for having a career.

Things will be a lot worse than you think because Gen X was supposed to be the generation to replace the boomers, but there were about 63 million boomers and only around 37 million Gen Xers. Millennials I believe are somewhere around 44 million (talking about whites, specifically).

Gen X is as large, overall, as the Millennial generation because there are 75 million Millies and 75 million Xers- because huge numbers of pajeets were brought in to replace Gen X.

Gen X is already minority white, replaced by foreigners. So what happens when you have a herd of Changs working for the PRC and poojeets who want to bring their cousin ranjesh into the country running everything once the boomers die off? It's all gonna fall apart spectacularly. Twice as fast too, if the Millennials realize foreigners are their bosses and trying to actively fuck them over and strike back against it.

But on a larger note I think we're on a substantial cultural and economic shift. Stocks have boomed since the 2000's and it's going to take a hard crash leaving the country in ruin sometime soon. Boomers have fucked over millenials by gatekeeping them from the economy and telling them to go be a burger flipper at McDick's.

I understand why people want a socialist nation now and it looks like we might get it sometime soon. Greed has it's price and it's shitty ideals working their way into life.

Grind if you have to. When you get to industry you will grow a lot but you need the door to be open first and internships are the easiest way. The good ones pay pretty well too. I'm not saying to do garbage internships or basically any unpaid ones, go to at least established start-ups or start-ups that IPO'd, but get good experience early and you have a headstart on your career at one of these places because of how much freedom you have in them as engineers.

this will vary heavily between FAANG companies (and others in their 'tier' or whatever). in my company it's really chill in terms of relationships with management and my team and cross functional teams and stuff but a lot of the stress comes from yourself, the work being hard (which will heavily depend on your team and experience) and from deadlines. beyond that people are super chill in terms of the normal 'work' environment. i can basically skip any meeting if i feel it doesn't really involve me and am able to work whenever, don't log hours, and am not micromanaged. my manager has always felt like an advocate for me. sick time is unlimited and people are more than okay with you taking it for any reason. i feel a bit more micromanaged now since covid but only in the sense we now have daily standup meetings to share updates so it's still not bad at all. when covid wasn't a thing the company made an effort for teams to bond and for fun events to happen so there was always something fun happening at the office and of course there was always bomb ass free meals

what are you majoring in? do you like to code? are you a sophomore or lower? if so read what i mentioned about majoring in CS and finding internships. to get them you need to figure out when they go live (this is dependent on companies but I applied to mine in the summer, before the fall semester started for most. I think this helped my app go to the top, and always remember that companies have caps for internships. would you rather be trying to get a spot when there are 1000 still or when there are 10?)

beyond that i recommend attending any career fairs, meetups, etc for these high level companies at your college. if your college is too small for these then maybe see if they have events (now these are mostly virtual but usually they aren't). lastly, when you do apply, keep in mind a lot of people get auto-rejected. you need to stand out somehow, either good grades, other internships, awesome side projects, etc. if you get autorejected just try again next year and grind on your studies. if you make the interview you need to study your balls off, coding interviews are absolute bullshit but are a necessity for companies which sucks since it barely represents what you'll be doing anyway

this can all be really hard if you're at a smaller school, so def focus on standing out and improving your skills if you genuinely like coding

btw i said this because you probably won't get an internship after senior year (obviously, unless you're gonna do grad school or some shit which is ultimately kind of stupid for CS though I have my masters because it was free and I didn't wanna be an adult yet, stupid in retrospect as I'd have a higher net worth by now otherwise). if you're a junior you could still try but it might be late if you don't know how to code/aren't CS to apply to these internships right now.

I'm a sophomore in CS with 0 previous related work experiences with 3.6 GPA. My resume is pretty bare bones. What should I do to get on the road to FAANG? I take an internship with a relatively small company? Is building a website with github pages enough to constitue a personal project? I don't feel particularly interested in a single industry like data, web dev, cyber security, ect, is there one you'd recommend?

don't just apply to places you're interested in, apply to tons of positions unless the company actually sucks or has a terrible culture, and try to avoid unpaid internships which aren't usually actually useful

even now i'd recommend throwing an app at FAANG for internships. worst case you get auto rejected and try again next year, but keep in mind what I mentioned about applying early which could fuck you next year (as in you'd have to wait a full year to apply, putting your next one in Sept/Oct)

i'd focus more on company culture, what you'll learn, and what other interns and employees have said in glassdoor and blind and online and shit.

if your school has project based classes i recommend trying some out if they're not required, that helped me pretend i had side-projects since i could still show them off to interviewers and shit. my school had a program that would allow students to work in labs so a lot of people also got experience from that by working on CS stuff at school for pay or credits.

so tl;dr apply to an assload of places but still be somewhat picky. you don't want to go somewhere shitty that will just make you feel bad about the field or not teach you anything, you might get more return on yourself if you spent a summer studying instead of taking some shitty ass internship

i do think having a github pages webpage is somewhat helpful, it at least stands out on your resume and who knows what companies are adding as filters for their auto rejection software nowadays. you can literally find a free html/css template online, reference it at the bottom of your page, and build it from that, changing the colors, layout, etc. super simple, basically myspace page programming at that point

as for fields i think this is mostly a meme, but when you're in industry you will sort of start to lean in on what you like and this will inevitably become your 'skill' and what you look for

hope this helps and feel free to ask more

don't be scared to travel for an internship also. there are soooo many companies out there that are big but private or big but normies don't really know them because they aren't consumer facing. i.e. palantir, cloud companies, biotech companies, etc. find what you like but a good way to explore is also internships since you're ultimately not locked down for a long time like you would be as a full timer (waiting for a yearly cliff for stock vesting, not having to return your signing bonus if you last at least a year, etc)

Landed me a position as a student auditor for the federal government. 21, hispanic, submitted my thing when it was open, got an interview, you needed to write an essay on why you think this job is great for you, they called me back for references. Took a month before they responded on the update. Got my tentative offer (must submit to an indepth background investigation and finger prints) Going to do my fingerprints.

In the mean time, I got another job as a student customer rep for an electrical company that hires students. Video interview, another call from the hiring manager, and then HR hell with my background check.

I've been applying since november and got my job offers in late august for the electrical, and last week for the govt job.

this is really hard to tell in general other than glassdoor and talking to people who work there. i don't want to lead you astray and since this FAANG gig is literally my only tech job ever i don't have the best advice here, but i've generally felt better when a company sends me a reach-out directly rather than from a headhunter (which majority of linkedin listings are)

you may end up getting to a shitty company this time around, but honestly it's not thaaaat bad. if this did happen you'd at least understand more deeply what makes a company bad and what you specifically didn't like so you can avoid that in the future. some general guidance has been to pay attention to their listing language (rock star developer, hard worker, stuff referencing that you'll be maintaining some shitty code or project) for red flags

sorry i don't have more advice here :( in your shoes i'd probably look for my red flags (above plus how is management, is there generally pressure to work after hours, are you expected to be on call always or only sometimes, do they seem like they value their employees by helping them grow as engineers and providing good benefits, sick time, vacation time, etc) and lean on glassdoor reviews for companies and discussions on blind

yeah, I hear anons give their horror stories. It's unfortunate people give an impossible question or task, just to see if you can handle it. Most people don't have the right mindset to address x y and z

Also here are my questions for my interviews
Customer Rep:
>Name a time you have gone above and beyond for a customer
Huh, thats an interesting question, that implies I have done something poorly with a customer in my service. never have, I have always done my absolute best to assist or help others in order to make sure everything goes well.

>name a time you had fixed an issue or problem and how did it work out?
I work on cars a lot as a hobby, I diagnosed an issue with both front wheel bearings that were in need of replacement like sounds and shakey steering wheel. I took it apart and replaced it and noticed how quiet my car was and the better handling in making turns.

(ideally this is supposed to highlight something you can bring to a table, I make it about how I noticed the issue, took steps to diagnose, and immediately saw how to address)

Student Auditor
>What is a weakness you have?
I noticed I need to know why I'm doing something before I do it. I have had experiences where someone asks me to speak to someone without giving me a background of the situation. Often, the customer is frustrated and it seems I'm only wasting more of their time. I do my best in problem solving, so long as I have a proper understanding of the situation, I can address it. If not, I can pick up to speed, but I'd prefer to do a task with purpose.

>Name a time you didn't know how to fix a problem
I worked as a document controller for a gas construction company, they needed an electronic system where HR, state inspectors, and foremen need access to schematics or invoices. I have no IT background, so I called up friends I had in college and they helped me setup the server (it was actually a dropbox) and now everything is a lot faster and more accessible for the client

But since you move to new jobs fairly regularly you just sleep in your car/tent/caravan which is free or $20/night at absolute most if you want amenities. Money is at the low end *for Australia*. Hello. 20yr old in Washington reporting in. The job market is not that bad, actually- you just gotta speak the lingo. Now, keep in mind- I mean *job*, not career. I will probably never find a career despite planning to double major and get into both Mechanical engineering and Electrical Engineering, of which I'm a first year student of at a community college. I've worked mostly retail, but I have done some hard labor both at airports and in the moving business.

The highest wage I've clocked in was a 17.50/hr job near Seattle at an airport.

To get a job, you must speak the HR language. I just aced an interview because I was able to wiggle around and mire in my own shit when it comes to selling myself and my skills, but if you have *any* self respect or decency, you hate life. I have a job offer for doing more seasonal retail, and I am interviewing tomorrow at a Chevy/Kia dealership.

Yes. It's mostly experience. I worked for Best Buy. Say what you will about that communist hellhole of zoomer doom, but working there taught me the language and the skills of selling things.

For example: On the interview I just got done with, I was asked the following question.

"Oh, Anon, How do you approach a customer who's looking at the product you're an expert in at the store?"

"Oh, that's easy Mr HRman! They're in the store for a reason, aren't they? They came with money to spend, and if they don't *have* any money to spend- well, we've got ways around that. One way I like to do it is to compliment them on their shirt- say they're wearing a Michigan State shirt. I just start a conversation about football, and ask them about their interests, and pivot into the product they're interested in!"

ezpz. He was very happy with that answer because it hit the core points he was probably looking for- enthusiasm, establishing rapport with customers, and ultimately pushing the product I am there to sell.

It's a big gay social politics game. You have to kiss the right asses in the right order, *and* you have to not be an aspie in the process.

It also helps to know a guy, too. I became good friends with one of the people who works at this company when I was working at bestbuy, so when they saw I applied they put in a good word.

tldr- Have no soul, don't be autistic, kiss ass. Nothing has changed.

Everything happening right now is because the jews took us off the gold standard. Under a gold standard you could driver retarded kids to school in a bus for a living and “make it” with your wife at home raising your 3 kids. They have confiscated all our wealth thru inflation.

The left is actually 1000% correct about income inequality they just have no idea how it is happening and it’s because we don’t have sound money anymore. Conservatives say shit like “min wage wasn’t supposed to be a living wage.” “Or work harder and you’ll make more” this is good advice but it doesn’t get at the root of the problem which is prices are rising too fast.

It’s basically like telling a Venezuelan to work harder even tho that extra money won’t buy you a dozen eggs.

I'm 18 and I got fired form a job when I was 16, it was a nice programming job too..
after that no one wanted to hire me for obvious reasons
so I stayed unemployed and tried to get a job somehow, nothing worked
I always get rejected, worst thing is that I can actually do a lot of shit, I'm good at everything from web dev to video editing and 3d rendering and even audio engineering
I don't know what the fuck to do with myself, I can learn at very fast speeds but no one wants me

I'm bad at selling myself and writing resumes
it's been 2y since losing the job, what should I do bros
why does a mistake I made as a fucking child prevent me from ever succeeding in life
the reason I got fired was because I couldn't learn programming the way they wanted it and because they thought that I didn't want to do that job, jokes on them they are bankrupt now and I'm better in programming than before

I spend a lot of time trying to build up a good work ethic, go to the gym religiously and bud up my skills
while it's really hard to do those things without a job, I sometimes succeed but often I get lazy and sad about getting lazy

anyone please help

Replying from computer, so different ID. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

>>22793991
It really is, but it took only two years of (almost free) community college to start making around 90k so I'm not complaining. I can easily push over $100k by picking up some side work and can double that by going advanced practice. I work three days per week, get discounts at a lot of places, and the public loves me. I rarely wipe ass, and the doctors in my ER are chill bros. Not a bad gig.

>>22794152
Don't have a Tik Tok and have never seen another nurse film one on the job. At my work, they'd be mocked mercilessly by everyone if they did. I work in the ER so maybe that's why.

>>22794974
I can tell you know very little about the education pathways for these two very different professions. Medical school works for some people but it can be a pretty bad deal in many cases. Some PAs and NPs can out-earn some physicians, with less school/work/liability. It seems you don't really understand the very different roles of physicians or nurses to assume they are interchangeable.

>>22795165
It's an option. I've been working less than a year. I definitely want to do something more, I just haven't quite decided what yet.

>>22795834
It is funny to see so many people shitting on me despite getting a 90k job working three days per week after two years of community college, debt free.

>>22798684
Thanks, homie. Some of the grossness is subjective, and you also get desensitized to it. Does suck getting treated like shit by drunks, homeless, and junkies all the time though. I feel like I'm paid fairly for what I put up with, though. I know this isn't the case in almost any other country or even other states.

>>22801987
I'm relatively new and am still figuring that out. I thought going the APRN route seemed cool at first, but I'm feeling it less now. Some options I'm weighing now include:
1. Get an MSN and teach
2. Get an MBA and do hospital admin (feels dirty but idk)
3. Maybe do NP (ACNP)

>> No.22804342

>>22804098
I know a couple guys who fell into an awesome job taking call for hospitalist and hanging out all night doing fuck all, maybe looking at someone to see if they should transfer to icu or just put the oxygen back in their nose, or hook them up to actual oxygen instead of the fucking air outlet. I hate to shit on nurses but some of the stuff they've done makes the rest of us look really bad. Acnp is tempting since it's just two years but I don't think I'd be that lucky to get with the hospitalist group. I'd probably wind up with something shit like ID or worse like working a walk in clinic and writing antibiotics for colds just to shut L'atrine up becuz she be knowing wat her chillunz is need.
Psych seems pretty cool. Any changes? Wanna kys? Meds still working? Cool, heres your same rx see you in three months that'll be $200+tip. Do inpt consults and patient is on vent? Write up a note saying as much and to reconsult me once extubated. Don't even have to go in the room to collect that $200. Best of all you don't have to learn all the antibiotics and play 20 questions with 'people' who can't even remember the five different blood pressure meds they take. Psych, more psych, and a consult to family health if they won't drop it asking about other meds. You can even put up signs saying you don't do Xanax to slightly discourage junkies. My np doesn't write Adderall but it's the only reason I see her, so you don't even have to follow your own policies if you don't want to.

fucking terrible? what did you expect? i can't find a job in my field, with a degree. i ended up getting a sales job. i'm really fucking good at sales but i hate it. used it to save up my first 100k, put it into link 2 years ago. it's my way out of sales jobs, which i've done since i was 16. i make my money in crypto now. i just learned how to read charts and i pay for a private group (not gonna shill it). now i'm just comfy. in a few years i'll be able to retire. i've just been shouting "covid" and "depression" at HR, and my work has given me MONTHS off of work with FMLA (unpaid ofc but i have my benefits).

Holy fuck, based. Screencapped actually just because it’s so on point.

Saddest thing is, I do have a kid. With my gf - I’m 26 she’s 24. My lil chad just turned 1.

It feels fucking horrible trying to constantly think about how I’m going to navigate this upcoming minefield of a job market/political atmosphere/civil war/nuclear war/whatever it is that’s about to happen. It won’t be good, I know that much. But I also know I can’t afford to let the munchkin fall victim to the shitshow just because he happened to be born into the worst fucking time in history, smack dab into the Greatest Depression.

(we made the decision to have bb right as we were moving into a new place, stupidly expensive rent, but in a nice area and as I was just getting my dream job. Had bb, life was amazing for 6 months - covid started and I lost job in March. Now on gibs, looking for a job anyway because ants in my pants; literally zero luck. Getting ghosted by the few recruiters I can get on the phone at all. And no hope of actual IRL networking because lolsocialdistancing.)

Fuck boomers, fuck kikes, fuck liberals, and did I mention fuck boomers? Idk, i don’t even care whose fault it is, it’s just not fun anymore and I’m thoroughly sick of it. No more memes. I literally want everybody to either wake the fuck up (not gonna happen), or just skip straight to the flat out war part. Then at least I can go buy some guns and a house in the deep WV woods and stop having to worry about whether I should stick to civilization and hope for a decent school for my chitlins, and just turn to the hillbilly remote-working-software-developer life.
