True, matic is a layer 2 solution so it has to work on a blockchain. And benefit of it is that L0 feature implementation takes very long. So L2 help in that and L2 can add features which are not possible on L0.

think of matic as exchanging decentralization for speed. it will still be faster than eth 2.0, in fact eth 2.0 will improve matic itself, but it won't be as decentralized. that said, i can see matic taking a large chunk of volume if they pull off metatransactions on uniswap
