there were so many fucking ways to get rich between 2005-2017 with the development of the internet
what excuses do you have boomers? if you were over 18 during that period then there is none

33 year old boomer here. College wasn't seen as the scam it is now so we all thought that was the golden ticket. There was no reason to try for anything else.

>> No.22529497

Even adults during that period are fucked. Unless you were in tech, engineering, or finance during that time you are also boned and likely just got poorer over that time.

Life sucks anon - better hope crypto works out. If you had enough talent to make it in the early days of the internet, you should be able to make it on the back of tech today still. Lots of 6 figure positions in that space.

College was still seen as the golden ticket. People realise it's a scam now, but at the time it wasn't seen that way (and pre-2007 it kinda wasn't, I knew quite a few people with mickey mouse degrees who went into good jobs).

Unpaid internships were big so no money to invest there. I was one of a very tiny number from my school to actually get a paying job but it wrecked my health. Was able to save up a little by living in an illegal squat, but then I got sick, lost the job and had to spend all my savings to survive. Switched careers into SWE by self-teaching, had to work a bunch of shit jobs without making any money before I was able to get a proper, decently paying, decently skilled one. That prettymuch brings me to where I am now.

I think zoomers who have never been in a recession see "if you had invested X in Y during the recession you would now be rich". But they miss the point that in a recession almost everything gets fucked - unstable jobs, poor salaries, high COL, high unemployment, etc.

Forgot to mention I graduated in 2008. No jobs around, and by the time things did start to pick up a little every company preferred the new incoming fresh grads to ones who hadn't worked/studied in the field for several years.

Good luck to those graduating now :)

>there were so many fucking ways to get rich between 2005-2017 with the development of the internet

the internet as you know it today was not developed until 2012, before that the internet was a mostly a secluded spot for nerds, closeted faggots and loner freaks.
the smart phone came out in 2008 but it was until 2012 that 4g data became widely used and the second dot com boom happened

in 2008 the second great depression hit leaving a bunch of people homeless and others scraping bye.
zoomers are the ones making money of the internet, there is literally pubescent kids making bank by doing stupid faces on Chinese spyware apps and other singing about weed and shit on YouTube.
back when you actually had to have talent to make money of your image, today average looking whores are making bank by doing nothing but spreading their shit holes online.

sorry to brake it to you mister zoomer, but the age of the internet money is now, not then

I actually think it's better to carve out some sort of business that leverages the tech people with those 6 figure positions make. i.e. I'd rather have 100-300k subs on youtube with an upward trajectory than work at Google.

I say this as a software engineer of 4 years that is starting to understand entrepreneurship and how the pieces work together a bit more. I'm looking for a time to transition out of working in tech.

In 2040 people will say it was easy to get rich in the 2020s, just open a tiktok and instagram and get rich from your smartphone.

6 months ago you just had to leverage long the stocks of tech companies everyone use and you'd be rich too, why didn't you faggot ? It was easy.

Well not really. In 2012 literally everyone had internet and it was for sure secret spots for nerds anymore. Also a lot of people for sure saw eg potential of amazon. Everyone can grasp trends and feel in what direction developments are going, but only few people manage to quantify it. Amazon share looked expensive to most people at that time. They had pe ratios of 50 and more. People realized the trends but didn't correctly assess. OP has a wrong imagination of how things work. It's not about finding some secret trend, most things are memed today, eg hydrogen, electrified vehicles, passenger drones, batteries and lithium,...bubbles develop and pop. It's about quantifying and assessing.

Most college attendees have been there purely as a source of revenue since at least the 90's. There's no prestige to higher education anymore unless it's STEM or a PhD at a decent university. Some of the bachelors degree holding new starters I get at my company are almost completely retarded and lacking work experience.
