I really don't mean for this to be a shill thread and everyone should DYOR but summed up briefly it does a few things.

Mainly it solves the blockchain trilemma by uniting scalability, security, and decentralization. Through doing this, if it can in fact do it (no emerging problems thus far). The transactional costs thus far with Fantom is approaching null ($0.0000001) and the wallet to wallet finality time is around 1-2 seconds. Supposedly it's (theoretically) capable of 300 000 tps which can be compared to visa's 1700, ethereum's 15, or bitcoin's 7.

There's a lot to be said about the interoperability of fantom this is already starting to sound way too much like a shill and I'm bound to go into some speculation here.
