Is it really 30% premium? Which one of us is doing the math wrong? According to https://silverprice.org/ the price of silver/oz in EUR at the moment is 22,75€/oz. Let's be fair simplify the maths a bit in the process and say the spot is a bit lower even: 22,5€/oz. I boight 100oz, therefore a spot price of 2250€ of silver. I however paid a total of 2619€ in shipping, VAT and premium costs. Let's round that up to 2620€ for simplicity. Divide by 100 for simplicity gives us the equation:
26,2 ÷ 22,5 ≈ 1,164 // I paid 16,4% more in premium, VAT & shipping

Let's punch in this number and check if I'm right: 2250€ × 1,164 = 2619€

Just in case you were wondering, the "10" above "STERLING" is likely a model/style number for whatever type of item it is. Most non-jewelry US American sterling silver is simply marked "sterling", not usually .925, though Mexican and south American sterling is marked more variably.

Sterling is 92% or so isn't it? So your price is the equivalent of paying $21/oz or so for pure silver. Well below spot. You'll have to take into account refinery fees and all that bollocks if you want to make it very liquid, but overall seems good to me.

No, often sellers simply aren't aware that silver isn't still stagnating under 20 like it was for years, or they discount too generously for it being scrap and not bullion. As long as you can verify it's appropriately stamped or hallmarked in the pics I'd proceed.

You want to be among the first to see an item, this bowl I bought a few hours ago had everything listed and described clearly including a pic of it on a scale, enamel is thin and doesn't weigh much so $225 with shipping and tax for ~470 grams of sterling worth $376 melt is a no brainier, the listing wouldn't have lasted another minute if I hadn't grabbed it so like I said, try to be the early bird. https://www.ebay.com/itm/293725124112

I usually snipe in the last 5 seconds for auctions, or use a service like gixen.com and set up snipe bids in advance so I don't need to be monitoring shit all day.

Best thing for me is filtering and viewing only the "Buy it Now" listings sorted most recent first, best chance of snagging awesome deals in my experience because normal auctions give everyone else lots of time to determine their buy price per ounce which tends to be higher than I like spending. Not long ago I barely missed 67 ounces of sterling for 325 bucks buy it now, crazy good deals are out there ya just gotta see them first.

Any silver plate experts here? I found a local lot of silverplate forks spoons etc, about 60 in total for $45. Most are unknown brands mixed with some known silver plate ones.

Anyway how much silver content is in plated items and how do I unplate them?

it depends on your interests and where you're at
books don't have current prices, especially when spot prices for metals fluctuate so wildly. I use coinflation for melt values.
if you just want a reference guide for coins, the red book by yeoman for the USA, or the world catalog for world coins are pretty standard. again remember for precious metals, the prices vary a lot depending on spot value (look on kitco.com/market for current price), so the prices may be out of date by the time you get the print copy. they're still useful to ID coins and know key dates and varieties.
if you want to save $, you can buy the version from a year or two ago, or get the blue book instead. the blue book is for dealer buying prices (which is ~15% below actual worth. the red book is dealer selling values, which is about ~10-15% above actual worth). and paperback or spiral-bound is usually cheaper than hardcover, but amazon has weird prices sometimes.

Bullion is bullion to me, the premiums on ASEs or other fancy rounds are retarded and since they weren't struck for circulation they aren't true numismatics and thus not worth collecting or paying any extra for in my opinion.
