No it's just retards who think they're smart that they think they can actually make money by selling ATM options in any case and expect not to get fucked by a hugely negative gamma position. Not to mention the ability to early exercise an American option so you run that risk as well.

Remember this formule I'll post it once for people here to remember when using options:

PnL = (total delta)*(price move) + (total gamma/2)*((price move)^2)

If you're gamma is negative (which it is if you sell options, ESPECIALLY ATM options) then you're fucking yourself real hard if the price were to ever move so slightly if your delta isn't so big that it cancels out the negative gamma

Not sure what you mean. It’s a theta strategy. Using Apple as the example, you’d be more fucked had you bought the same call. Saying “I could have bought a put” isn’t a good defense because then you’re just implying ‘crystal ball’ logic. CCs are a defensive strategy with the implicit assumption of a flat to moderately bullish outlook and that the underlying’s real volatility will be less than IV.

I am planning to re-invest that tomorrow as well as an additional $5k and a AAPL LEAP, I hope it tanks a bunch more. I will watch the pre-market numbers to see if I should jump in right away or wait for more based DIPS. My investment plan has me buying AAPL, MSFT, TQQQ. The only one I am unsure about buying on the fatty DIP tomorrow is TQQQ. AAPL and MSFT are stable enough that a dip just feels like a discount. Thoughts?

I am never buying TSLA until it totally tanks. Retards on facebook screaming about buy the dip and battery day cuz thats what other robinhoodfags are saying. $200 TSLA? Yes 10 plz. Then I will just hold until it can buy me a Tesla Model 3. And at that point its just play money. If TSLA goes up to the moon from here meh. 1) dont sell covered calls on AAPL if you would be devastated if they were filled and are too much of a bitch to wait for a dip to buy them back
2) if you dont want your calls to be filled but still want free money, just sell at a higher strike. AAPL has high enough premiums and liquidity that youll still get something even selling at a strike that is basically impossible, because there are yolo retards buying the top
3) just do CC on BAC instead dumbass

I'm starting to understand covered calls better now after selling some as a test and now doing it for money.

Citi
1000 Shares at a price of $52
Breakeven price $55
Covered call $55.5 priced at 42 cents
Sell 10 covered calls
Get $420 minus $15 commission.

If stock stays below $55.5 I keep the options money.
If stock goes above $55.5 I get my shares sold at that price and make 50 cents a share plus keep the option money.

Only downfall is if stock goes much higher than $55.5 I which case I lose out on those gains. But that is rare in covered calls under a month of expiration, depending on the stock.

Premium + any upside between the purchase price of the stock. You should check the annualized covered returns on options before you keep digging your hole.

>Since I don't know the future
The chance that the option will end up in the money is the delta of the option.
The opportunity costs of you holding that stock and having a covered call is more costly than the premium you receive on the call option. You know why? Because the true value of the option is lower than what you pay for it, and the value is higher than what you can sell it for.
You're always losing out on gains with a covered call and always have higher opportunity costs than the premiums make up for.

So for a small premium you receive of 100$ you're willing to cap your gains where the opportunity costs are ALWAYS higher than the premiums you receive for it. Why? Because you don't get to trade the fair value of the option, that's in-between the spread, meaning you'll always pay more in opportunity costs than what you gain in premiums from it because you're gonna offer at the bid most likely.

As a percentage this is $3,695.625/$1758=210.21%. Doesn’t include upside potential between the strike and purchase price.

Can you make that every week? probably not, but you can make disproportionately high returns when the IV is high and it assumes continuous conditions through the year. That said, if you capture the elevated premiums in the meantime the results speak for themselves.

depends on the administration. I think Trump doesn't want to uphold the strong dollar policy because he thinks it's bad for exports, so I can see the Fed try to go along the path of "controlled devaluation".

>>22181584
well, yeah, because the only alternative is bankruptcy and it comes with huge political cost

Free riding violations piss off brokers more than most other violations. You might want to try feigning ignorance with their customer support. This will only work once.

So today may be the part where I try this again, only this time do it the right way. Once the kung flu came and wrecked this financial newfag, I thought I could swing my way out and wrecked myself big time. If this is the start of another full on crash (it is election season, I'm sure it's orchestrated to an extent) I'm doing this the right way. I'm all cash right now, so I guess this is the part where I find the ones that got slammed the hardest and diversify until I climb out of the hole. I did enough soul searching staying away for the last month and I'm going to be good at this come hell or high water.

Whether today is the bottom or the bottom has yet to come, I can't say.

WSB has some big winners but most people there lose all of their money. This place has a lot of people crabbing and just a few winners. Most likely our average is higher but our median would definitely higher.

I don’t usually get it right at the top or bottom. I just wait until I see signs of a reversal and then buy or sell. I had a $5 trailing stop that triggered on AAPL yesterday that suggested that the local top was close so I liquidated my TQQQ along with most of my other positions. 60 day EMA is a pretty good indicator as well, which has been discussed here extensively. Part of it is just kind of a feeling though. I figure I can always get back in so I don’t care if I take profit too early. I think that the way TQQQ moves even if you get bogged you can double down and have a high probability of making your money back.
