I am 18 and I want to learn how to invest to make my future a little easier financially. I had a friend tell me that I should look into ETFs. Any suggestions?

Make a budget and decide how much you can set aside each month for investing. Split that money into VOO, VTI and ARKK. If you consistently add money over the course of tge next 22 years you will outperform 90% of daytraders and shitcoiners and have bank due to the wonders of compound interest. Very little risk as well.

Its not about becoming a millionaire over night. You wana be able to look back at some good financial decision you made while you are 18? Buy crypto. Your a baby in the real world, you have no real responsibility and no real bills. Make risky investments etfs are for boomers with shit to lose. You got nothing.

Dividend stocks are overrated. You're going to have to pay taxes on those dividends even if you reinvest them. Just go into index funds that don't pay a dividend. They typically grow faster than dividend stocks and you won't have to worry about reporting them on your taxes every year.

Also take some risk and invest 25% of you income into crypto. You literally have your entire life ahead of you, you can tolerate a modicum of risk if it means potentially 10xing some of your money

Many others like me on this board. If you research Chainlink now you could be a millionaire before you turn 25.
You won’t research it tho and will miss this opportunity

It's completely the wrong mindset for daytrading but it's the right mindset for long term investing. One of the biggest advantages OP has is starting so young. If he starts buying dividend stocks now he will be in great shape 20 years from now with essentially no effort/time researching shitcoins. People underestimate the power of compound interest.

Look at building a stack of btc, eth and link. Of course your buying at all time highs but mcap could still grow a lot, you could always wait for a dip but thats a risk and there's always risk in any investment you make. Look into cro so you can make interest staking, ive made $1200 this year in different cryptos staking. Hex staking rewards are insane if you don't back out of the stake and wait for big pay day and is 1 of the most bullish projects I've ever seen. Bat is also an interesting project but price isn't doing much. I've been into crypto since 2010 and I've been on biz since 2017. I've seen every bull run. And I think its safe to say crypto isn't going away any time soon and there's tons of room for it to grow.

>> No.22046102

seriously though OP, you're taking the wrong angle here.
If you want to make safe investments, in about 5 years when you have a stable job you'll be able to put 3-5x the amount of money on a regular basis in. There's no good reason to take low risk, low reward payouts when your working capital is low to begin with. I would just live life, have fun investing in shitcoins and if one moons then enjoy it. If not, nothing of value was lost

>> No.22046107

Also crypto should always be treated like a long term investment.

>> No.22046133

>>22044357
If you don't have money, there's no point in investing. ETFs are low risk, low rewards. Unless you have stable income and investing long term (think decades), you won't make enough to even bother.

You need high volatility for quick gains.Just buy shitcoins for a couple of hundred bucks. It's basically a lottery though

Not OP, but in a similar situation.

A few months ago I decided index funds were my thing. However, compound interest takes a long time to accelerate, and I don't want to wait 10 years before I see a significant gain.
So instead of starting with index funds, I decided to take bigger risk with crypto at first, and once I make some decent money, I will put it into index funds and start putting my monthly savings there. Maybe keep 10-20% in crypto just in case, but in a more passive way.

Does that make sense?

Depends on a few things. Where do you live? Whats your country's tax on crypto? What coins and how long do you plan to hold them? The first and last part of your plan are sound. Its the middle part that just sounds like a waste of time.

Really time is the key here, so any amount is better than nothing. If you put $100 dollars a month into those stocks for the next 22 years you will have ~$90k by the time you are 40. That's not a ton of money, but it's a lot more than sticking it in a savings account. And that's just $100 per month. Throw more money in every month and the amount increases exponentially.

Crypto is a broad term you have coins in the market based upon completely different functions and even act unique for example transaction times and between The top 3 are completely different you also have stable coins which operate on their own constant level so the crypto market is pretty diverse depending on what you research and buy

Spain

>Whats your country's tax on crypto?
Same as other investments:
<6.000€ = 19%
6.000 - 50.000€ = 21%
>50.000 € = 23%
You have to declare withdrawals, and I believe conversions between crypto coins too

>What coins and how long do you plan to hold them?
Pic related is my current portfolio.
I plan to double down on BTC, ETH and LINK in the next few months.
But I will also buy some less popular altcoins to have a chance at moonshots. I just don't know which ones yet.

ETFs will get you like 20% returns over a matter of years. I don’t know what boomer recommended those to you but it’s a stupid fucking idea. Don’t be lazy and research crypto, I turned 80 dollars into 160 and went from there, now my portfolios at 600 and I bet it’ll hit 1000 this month. You can not get gains like that in the stock market. There is absolutely no reason for someone your age to put money into stocks, especially if you put like 300 dollars in it will be worthless

Alright, buy more eth and btc, I'd personally drop the xrp but thats me. Your link stack is actually ok for someone new. You will probably understand the tax in Spain better than me because I'm an amerifat but in America its less tax to trade crypto to crypto especially if its long term over a year. Make gains in sats on small mcap coins and sell 80% of your bags after a year if you profit into btc. Hodl the other %20. If you cash out just remember to pay your taxes correctly and to factor those in before you take profit. Once the money is in your account feel free to buy etfs, or a hookers or chucky cheese tokens or whatever. Just know if you keep your earnings in crypto you will most likely pay less tax and gain higher interest on it thro staking.

If you risk while you are 18 and succeed that will mean a whole lot when you are 40. If you risk and you lose it it will mean nothing when you are 40. If you play it safe with your initial small capital and you get 20 percent on top when you are 40 this will mean almost nothing.
So better risk it now, have fun because of the adrenaline and try to make it.

I am 23 right now and I still have the same mentality that I think I am still too young to be afraid of losing
