If you're watching the Lition Maker explorer, you can clearly see that they are testing both adding nodes and making certain nodes offline randomly to see if the consensus correctly handles validating blocks.

Testing is going really well and I'm optimistic that Mainnet will launch by the end of October after more testing with community nodes.

It will depend on the sidechain for sure, but after a bit of time I am sure rewards will level about between them. Less stakers on the syndicated loan sidechain, for instance, would lead to higher rewards in that chain - node operators will notice this and move around accordingly. I think it will reach an equilibrium. White paper also mentioned the ability for side chains to pay a stipend/bonus of sorts to incentivize nodes to move over.

Original anon here. Say i staked my way up to a Trust Node (50,000 LIT) and LIT rises to a valuation of $10, how would staking become a viable model? Like the previous anon said, i would be making $3,650/yr whilst sitting on a bag of LIT worth $500,000.

Regardless if i decided to hold for LIT to see if it rises in value or not, by this point in time how will staking be a selling point for new investors given the huge price disparities? Surely the value proposition of LIT will evolve into every other coin on the market, a tradable asset, opposed to an investment to make a liveable passive income from.

Endgame, staking crypto will be the equivalent of buying dividend shares. If youre not satisfied with the amount you get a year you switch to another blockchain, and I expect the rewards for the successful ones to be around 5%

Look, nobody knows what the staking returns could be in the long term, we're all just speculating at this point. It all depends on adoption and the number of daily transactions.
In my opinion 5% yearly is a reasonable and conservative estimate.
So if LIT really goes to $10 and a trust node becomes worth half a million (which nobody knows if it will), you could expect a $25k yearly return from staking.

Look price vs staking rewards is like an equation.
p = x times s
The only thing that will be known is the staking rewards (s). This will be set by the ecosystem. In response, the market will set the price (p), which will be a multiple (x) of the staking rewards. This multiple will be high in a bull market and low in a bear market. It will probably also tend to be high in the starting phase of the project and trend lower as the system reaches maturity.
Right now the multiple is artificially set by the team to be 5 (or lower if you stake with a higher multiplier). This is the same as an ROI of 20%. This is very unlikely to continue under free market conditions. As adoption increases and staking rewards for the whole system increases in dollar terms, the price of the token will simply get bid up far beyond a multiple of 5 as people rush in to take advantage of the high staking rewards. It will reach an equilibrium at some point. We can speculate what equilibrium that will be. If we take price to earning ratios of stocks as an analogy we can see a multiple of well over a hundred for a high growth ecosystem, this would mean the ROI would be lower than 1% per year.
