Obviously there are a lot of chains competing to do the same thing, because if any one in particular sees widespread adoption then the people holding that crypto will become very rich. I think Cardano has a good future ahead of it but a lot of it's success depends on Ethereum being lackluster. If you see anything in the news about ETH 2.0 delays, Vitalik going to prison for being a nonce or insane gas fees then that's all bullish for Cardano. I think it's biggest advantage will honestly be scaling, if Hydra turns out to be as promising as it looks. It's promising 1 million TPS. That puts Visa to shame. That puts Ripple to shame. If Hydra works as promised, Cardano will make every other crypto look like a joke in this category. Time will tell, though.

cardano uses haskell to support their academia larp. In reality Charles dropped out of a shitty state college and isn't even a developer. He spent 25million on rent seeking haskell devs that produced nothing in 4 years so htey had to build it in Rust just to get it off the ground. Maybe now they have a working haskell version but who cares how many versions you have if your platform does literally nothing.

It's still in development, they don't even have smart contracts working yet. I don't know if they are capable of solving the scalability issue but that they use Haskell is pretty cool I guess. It attracts a lot of hyper autists that mastrubate about their purely functional programming language.
Also peer reviewed papers seem good, I don't know, I think its market cap is way too big for what it currently is.

To be fair, haskell is used a lot in academia. People who love programming usually create little experiments with haskell, the thing is it's a purely functional programming language. Math geeks love it.
