On a more serious note. How long would it take, before asteroids are being mined for precious metals and the prices dump harder than your ex did on your dog's funeral?

You really think this will be feasible within any of our lifetimes?

I'm asking the same question anon, so I can't give you an answer I'm afraid. Perhaps anyone else can enlighten us?

Wouldn't they be highly radioactive?
I wouldn't know, but they landed a little robot on an asteroid not too long ago, they've got space helicopters now and little space jeeps, they don't need humans to mine asteroids, they might use Disney stunt robot technology if they really want humanoids up there, but that would be retarded.

Based anon.

For sure they won't send people to mine. It's not that he sends Bruce Willis with a drill. Disney stunt bots would be retarded indeed. Retarded but funny as hell.

I got into this on another board.. much like fracking for oil, the business model could only exist if the price of gold warrants the expense. Once oil falls to a certain price, the fracking sites shut down because its too expensive. How fucking expensive do you think mining gold from outerspace is? The price of gold will stabilize around the cost of mining if no longer scarce, i have a hard time believing that the cost of asteroid mining will be cheaper than digging in the ground, and the logistics of bring it back to earth would have limits.

>drop it from space and it atomizes, melts, and breaks apart during rentry
>falls scattered over half of globe

He’s too busy mining Grimes these days

>> No.21530739

Asteroid mining will be reality in our lifetime (<50 yrs), but they won't bring back the mined gold to earth. Gold will be needed in space for industrial purposes, it will be used there without it ever touching earth.

The industrialization of the solar system won't just increase the supply, it will increase the demand as well.

We’ve known about these precious metal asteroids for some decades. It’s nowhere profitable to bring the gold back. The amount of delta you would need to bring that much gold back would be ridiculous. We’re still far away. Elon is a dreamer. We could probably do it someday. But probably not until at least the end of the century.
