21420382 No.21420382 [Reply] [Original]

Time for me to move my LINK off of Binance. I have a Ledger but I’m genuinely worried I’ll lose it or something. I’m thinking of moving it all to Gemini and eventually using their Custody service which charges .04 percent in LINK per year a twelfth of which is taken every month. This triggers me because these faggots are getting paid in LINK which might be 1000x more expensive down the line. However it’s probably a lot safer than me sitting on a fucking ledger that can get hacked or broken or physically stolen or I just forget the fucking seed or some bullshit.

What do bros? I am getting to the point where another 10x is life changing money. Gotta protect it.

>> No.21420450

nigger I left over 1/4 milly worth of BTC that I made using a linux bootable USB and a copy of Bitcore Core and dumped the private keys onto 2 usb drives and 1 sd card and shoved them in the end of my metal bed post and just put the cap back on it.

making cold storage is easy, don't trust fucking binance.

Bro, put it on cold storage, take some responsibility for your own assets..

An exchange is the weakest point in the whole sphere and is 1000000x more likely to be hacked than a Ledger...

You can lose many ledgers as long as your seed code is safe, just put that shit in a safety deposit box if you don't trust yourself to not lose it but ffs get that shit off exchanges now

How much are the Binance fees for withdrawing? I don’t wanna lose a single LINK so I’m gonna have to top it off once it’s stored.
But fuck man if I fuck it up I’ll very likely rope. It’s a good amount of money right now and I have no fiat to accumulate anything remotely close to my current stack. This will be one of the most intense moments of my life transferring this god damn crypto. I should do it in small batches but I don’t wanna get raped by fees. Just send 1 link to the address to test it out first, just copy and paste it and double check it or even just use the QR code.

you need to engrave multiple copies of the seed phrase into some metal, that's the only way to know for sure you're seed is safe. USBs can malfunction/be destroyed, cloud storage can go down. Paper can burn/flood. Some sort of metal should suffice, preferably something that won't melt in a house fire. You need multiple copies in separate locations for redundancy. Of course there is a problem of keeping them secure but the chance of someone finding them will be low if nobody knows they exist in the first place, ie tell nobody how much crypto you have or how you've secured it

>> No.21423653

>>21423446
it is retarded but not because you can forget the word, but because to bruteforce 2048 words would take less than a millisecond for a computer. Don't do this. You need to leave out at least 6-8 words before it reasonably protected from brute forcing

>> No.21423654

>>21421433
>yeah just remove a word
(X possible words) ^ 24 is what makes that seed phrase statistically impossible to brute force hack. removing only one word changes that to (X possible words). Current technology can brute force that very quickly if they grab a hold of the 23 words.

I know that if I lose the recovery phrase and the ledger I am fucked. And I know that if someone else accesses my recovery phrase I am fucked. I also know that to view my balances I have to connect my ledger to a computer with internet and have their software access my ledger which is a potential point of failure

However after seriously deliberating on this for the evening it is apparent that it is much more dangerous to keep my Linkies on an exchange than a ledger. The exchanges can get hacked but more importantly the exchanges can just decide to keep your shit if something happens. You have zero control.

Paper wallets are basically just writing your private key on a piece of paper. Impossible to hack when you aren't doing a transaction, but easily vulnerable to a keylogger when you actually enter it. Not recommended.

Don't use hardware wallets. There's a vulnerability in Link's code, allowing people to do SLQ% injections into your cold storage. If your Links are being used on a hardware wallet, you could easily wake up to see that they've been transferred out by some script kiddie.
